York University trying to stifle protest on campus?

Rob Tiffin, York University vice-president of students and member of the Task Force on Student Life, Learning and Community, said the poll results showed continued support of the recommendation given by the task force to renovate Vari Hall. When asked about concerns that the space will no longer serve for the purposes of student demonstrations, Tiffin confirmed that this was part of the plan.
   “We do feel that [Vari Hall] is an inappropriate space for noisy protests, and the fact is that we do have an absence or shortage of student space,” he said.
