A Centric Health Corporation media release states, “The asset purchase agreement to acquire certain assets of Shouldice Hospital Limited, which was subject to closing conditions and regulatory approvals, has expired.”

In late-September, the Council of Canadians, the Ontario Health Coalition, and the Canadian Health Coalition issued an open letter to Ontario’s Minister of Health calling on her to reject this sale, http://www.marketwire.com/press-release/open-letter-to-ontario-health-minister-on-shouldice-hospital-1707008.htm. That letter was reported in the media at http://www.yorkregion.com/news/article/1513347–thornhill-s-shouldice-deal-sets-off-health-care-debate.

We also supported this Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO) action alert calling on the Minister to “not let the Shouldice Hospital be sold to a huge U.S. conglomerate”, http://rnao.ca/policy/action-alerts/action-alert-ask-health-minister-reject-selling-shouldice-hospital-profit-us-co.

In the media release, Dr. Jack Shevel, the corporation’s executive chairman, expressed disappointment and said, “We are well positioned with our platform of seven national Surgical Centres comprising 19 operating rooms and 86 beds across four provinces to establish Centres of Excellence in partnership with Canada’s leading healthcare professionals.”
