I am happy to announce that Occupy Ottawa has launched a new blog regarding their Occupy movement as a collection of articles in a monthly communique.
The announce of the blog’s launched was made on March 1, 2012, as, “Beginning with this post, Occupy-Ottawa.org will publish a synopsis of what’s taken place over the course of each month, as well as some of the trending topics at Occupy Ottawa, with related links.”
The site will contain content describing what is happening with Occupy Ottawa. The Occupy Ottawa website has one or 2 articles going up each week, mainly published by an active writer at Occupy Ottawa, Obert Madondo. There will also be articles from other sites that seem to percolate through the movement each month.
So if you’re from Ottawa, please check it out to find out the what’s what in the Occupy movement.
Occupy Ottawa began on October 15, 2012 along with many other cities across Canada. There were over 30 cities participating in Occupy encampments and events last year.
On October 15, 2011, 75 people began occupying Confederation Park with a mindset they wanted to peacefully remain at the site for the long haul, referring to the movement as not just “a protest, but a presence.”
The National Capital Commission ordered Occupy Ottawa leave the site by November 21, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. or it would ask Ottawa police to assist in the eviction. Two hundred people rallied at Confederation Park in support of Occupy Ottawa for the midnight deadline. It wasn’t until early Wednesday morning that police actually moved in to evict the site.
A large crowd had gathered at the park in advance of the 11:59 p.m. Monday deadline.
At 2:00 am on November 23, 2011, police moved in to evict Occupy Ottawa from Confederation Park. Twenty-five Occupy Ottawa activists resisted the eviction of the site, resulting in eight arrests for trespassing.
There has been a call to Occupy Parliament on May 5, 2012.
