"The Globe and Mail is moving to charge readers for its online content, following a trend established by the New York Times and other major publications." Steve Ladurantaye - Globe and Mail, May 10, 2012
The headline says it all - "Globe to charge readers for online content." This news is not really that surprising. It is true of course that producing media and presenting news to the world costs money - a lot of money. Corporate media is going the way of fees and media is getting increasingly owned by a handful of corporations .
Not at rabble.ca. We are community supported so that everyone can use our site without paywalls or fees or charges no matter how much of it you use and no matter your income or wealth. rabble.ca has never charged to use our site and we never will. In return we ask folks that can (and let's face it, that's a good number) to support us to keep the lights on. You can support us at www.rabble.ca/membership.
Right now, until July 6, we are running our membership drive and if you donate at least $5/month you can get a great print magazine subscription as our thank you for your support. What magazines can you get when you contribute at least $5/month? We are excited to offer: Alberta Views, Briarpatch, Canadian Dimension, Geist, Middle East Report, Shameless, This Magazine and Our Times. If you contribute $8/month we will also give you a copy of the Best of rabble.ca 2011.
That's some good reading for just a few bucks a month and it keeps rabble.ca going and growing. Thanks!
