The shopping mall has been with us for about 70 years. The mall's founder was Victor Gruen, a socialist escaping from Nazi-occupied Austria. Gruen wanted to create a Europeanized, pedestrian friendly America. Helene Klodawsky explores the history, growth and social signficance of shopping malls around the world.
