A small community downstream from the Alberta tar sands development has lost almost 10 per cent of its townspeople to cancer since 1990.

Mike Mercredi is a member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation. He lives in Fort Chipewyan, a small town on Lake Athabaska downstream from the huge Alberta tar sands development. He calls what is happening in his community "slow industrial genocide". We caught up with him during a speaking tour to raise awareness about the impact of the tar sands.
