There has been an exponential growth in the outsourcing of military tasks with the result that many of the essential tasks of warfare are now done by contractors. The workers often have to pay to get the jobs and frequently have their passports taken away.
Pratap Chatterjee is a journalist and author of Iraq Inc. His forthcoming book is titled Haliburton's Army and examines the consequences of this huge shift in the U.S. military.
