Features Editor, rabble.ca

Contract: Two to three days per week equivalent

Are you a Canadian news junkie who knows the keyboard is more powerful than the sword? You understand the power of media in making political and social change, and want to do something about the need for a powerful alternative progressive media voice in Canada? If this sounds like you, read on.

rabble.ca, Canada's leading alternative news and multimedia website, seeks a dynamic editor to direct and edit day-to-day news and feature operations, and integrate multimedia and social media functions into the website's homepage on a daily basis.


This senior editorial member of the rabble.ca team is responsible for "news and features" - including assigning, editing and posting news, commentaries, and special features, videos, photographs and graphics that appear on the homepage of rabble.ca. Broadly, the Features Editor deploys rabble's editorial vision and strategies.


The Features Editor works closely and collaboratively with the Managing Editor, the Senior Contributing Editor, and the Publisher. Some supervision of a news intern and volunteer photo editors required.


Candidates should have strong organizational skills, extensive editing experience, a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, a collaborative approach to teamwork, familiarity with web editing, a creative approach to working with limited financial resources, a knowledge of progressive politics, national and world affairs, combined with experience or interest in progressive activism and a keen interest in the potential of web 2.0 tools. At least three years experience in journalism or publishing, mainstream or alternative is required.


The features editor works in a virtual office environment and can be based anywhere
in Canada.
