Norman Finkelstein on Obama's Middle East speech 2011

| May 23, 2011

"Not only is there no difference in content, but there's actually no difference in form [between what Bush said three years ago & what Obama said]. It's the same wording..."
- Norman Finkelstein interviewed on Democracy Now, 20 May 2011

Thanks! Much more Finklestein, no Zizek!

Not so fast....

Obama can claim he stayed within traditional U.S. policy yet that is misleading. One of the main formulas used has been that the two parties will determine the borders in negotiations. Since the Palestinian Authority wants the 1967 borders precisely while Israel wants changes this formula preserves Israel’s leverage. Israel can ask for more then use that as leverage to get less—but get what it needs.

Obama limited Israel’s leverage in two ways:

1. The 1967 borders with presumably minor changes.

2. Israel must also give territory in order to claim any parts of the West Bank. While Israel had mentioned the possibility of swaps now it is mandatory.

It isn't as if nobody has thought of these two points before. But up until now that was the way negotiations might end. What Obama has now done is to make this the starting point. Within hours of his speech, the PA demanded that Israel must accept the 1967 borders (with no changes) before it would negotiate!

So objectively, Obama's position has hurt any prospects for peace or even...holding talks at all.

Mindless mush from the pro-Zionist entity. What has changed? Has Obama halted the expansions of the settlements in any way? Have the demolition of Palestinian homes stopped? Has the harassment of Palestinians living in now-Israeli dominated neighborhoods stopped? Nothing has changed. Nothing. Has the endless amounts of credits from Washington, DC to Tel Aviv stopped? No. Your link to an awful pro-Israeli website changes nothing. Proves nothing, provides nothing new or real or truthful. A whole lot of nothing.

From the "Zionist Entity" with love:

A thousand Palestinians received, for the first time, hearing aids under a joint project of the Sheba Medical Center, Starkey Foundation and Physicians for Human Rights. A Ynet reporter joined doctors in Tulkarm and watched the smiles that came on the faces of people who, for the first time, could hear.

The cost of the devices is about one million dollars....or about $1000 per person.

This is Zionism:

A PR stunt. Does it stop the stealing of Palestinian homes or the demolition of others? Does it stop Israeli settlers from their constant harassment of Palestinian neighbors? Does it stop Israeli soldiers from forcing pregnant Palestinian women to disrobe completely and stand until they collapse, sometimes to their death? Does it stop Israeli soldiers from doing random house checks in the early morning in order to disrupt families from their sleep when they know nothing will be found? Does it stop Israel from putting Palestinians in jail for fixing their own plumbing or planting a tomato seed without the approved certificate? Does it stop Israeli jets from doing Mach II 60 metres above the ground over Palestinian homes? Does it free Palestinian children under 12 from prisons where they sit for months or for as much as a year without charge? Does it stop Israeli soldiers from shooting unarmed Palestinian children?

A PR stunt that is sure to be featured on local TV news across North America as some form of video release, one that will help blind North Americans to the reality that all corporate media block out or filter to one degree or another.

It is amazing how the racist Zionists have to come here when every other media outlet is on their side. They cannot handle the least bit of dissent, one thread/t of truth left dangling in the open for fear that the whole blanket of lies might unravel with enough of a tug.
