Should public transit be free? Why not? If we can afford to tolerate the insanity of billionaires (and trillionaires even!) then yes we can afford to subsidize public transportation. Stop letting rich rentiers hijack government with complex and secretive methods of post-employment bribery and hold their feet to the fire. Tax them. Should they threaten us with fleeing, let 'em go.. and nationalize production and all resources.
Simple. Go, go ye parasites.. flee to whereever you like.. and take your worthless fiat currency with you! You cannot take the Canadian soil with you. The resources must stay here. The working class.. the jewel of Canada's resources.. will get along fine once we remove your parastic hands from our throats.
