Julia Gillard has used a call by Tony Abbott for the Government to remove Peter Slipper as Speaker to attack the Opposition Leader for hypocrisy, labelling him a misogynist.
saw this posted on facebook, thought i'd add it here:
"Hey internets, I know you're all fired up about Australian PM Julia Gillard's takedown of that misogynist douche bag. But can we please remember that Gillard is responsible for the ongoing detention and death of thousands of refugees? That she has a tendency to say things like she wants 'the right kind of migrants' that support a 'sustainable Australia'? That she's implementing a plan for 'off-shore refugee processing facilities' in East Timor? That she has a plan to ship hundreds of refugee claimants to remote Pacific Islands? In particular, let's remember the hundreds of refugees who've drowned in three separate incidents this year alone as direct result of Gillard's 'stop the boats' policies. Whatever else she may be, Gillard is a racist who's got no qualms about using dead refugees to strengthen her political position."
Pooping Gillard's Party
Gillard’s eloquence on the subject of misogyny was not the most important feminist issue in federal parliament yesterday.
The passage of the legislation to move 100 000 single parents (the overwhelming majority of them women although an increasing proportion are men) onto Newstart is a far more fundamental event than the display of Prime Ministerial eloquence. This measure is not about encouraging women to build a better future for themselves and their offspring. It’s about further entrenching the Howard-era marginalisation of single mothers.
Julia Gillard is no feminist hero
"She has been praised for standing up to sexism but Australia's prime minister is also rolling back rights"
