Open-pit gold mining is a serious concern for the people of Costa Rica – both for social and environmental concerns. The rainforests of Costa Rica, and the myriad of plant and animal species that inhabit them, are threatened my mining projects in the country. A Canadian mining company, Infinito Gold, has threatened Costa Rica with a $1 billion dollar lawsuit. Their open-pit gold mine, slated for the Crucitas region of the country, was declared illegal in court. Then Costa Rica banned all open-pit metal mining in 2011. Sign this petition to honour the activists were fought against the mine; the people of Costa Rica whose lives are devastating by intrusive mining projects, and to protect the lives of millions of animals and greenery in the rainforests.
