safer stroll

Because of the current laws around bawdy houses, many sex workers are forced to walk a stroll (work on the street) rather than work inside. Sex workers can’t hire security when they’re on the streets, they are constantly on the move to avoid police and are generally at a higher risk of violence.

In Toronto, the Regent Park Community Health Centre created the community-driven safer stroll project. The project aims to help educate sex workers on what they can do to be safer on the streets and empower them. They have produced a fantastic 42 page guide that covers how to start a safer stroll project in your community either through activists or anti-oppression agencies.
The guide contains:

Structuring a safer stroll project

Challenges sex workers involved might face

Best practices throughout the project

Multiple workshop ideas and agendas

Maintaining safe work places and emotional spaces

Reporting bad dates

Canadian resources for sex workers
