Jacob Appelbaum is an independent American computer security researcher and a core member of the [[Tor]] project. Currently, Appelbaum is employed by the University of Washington.
After representing [[Julian Assange]] at the 2010 HOPE — Hackers on Planet Earth — conference, Appelbaum’s links to the whistleblowing [[WikiLeaks]] website quickly afforded him mainstream recognition. Since that appearance, Appelbaum has become a frequent target of American law enforcement agencies.
