Entitled "Sand From The Sea", the 13 song CD (with one bonus track) reflects Amai Kuda's work as a community activist, mother of a young child, and singer/songwriter with a strong vision of the world around her
Self-produced, with all her own compositions, the album includes many of the songs (such as Dance Chaka) that have become popular with the audiences she has developed playing countless fundraisers and community events in the last few years.
Blessed with a "powerful, soulful voice," (NOW music critic Benjamin Boles) and an intuitive music mind as both a composer and vocal arranger, "Sand From The Sea" is a unique combination of diaspora african musics that stretches from gospel to blues, african to hip-hop.
From the complex vocal arrangements of In The Dark, to simple guitar and voice of the song "From The Earth", Amai Kuda has created a sound that is entirely her own.
Born into an activist family, (her mother is the internationally awarded writer, Nourbese Philip, who has used her work to speak out about all kinds of injustice) Amai Kuda grew up going to demonstrations and listening to her elders passionately discuss the history and future of African peoples. Combining her music skills with this activist background, Amai Kuda began writing her own material and performing her songs at fundraisers over three years ago.
"Sand In The Sea" will be available to purchase at the concert and will be available at iTunes and Amazon on October 1
