Voices from Downstream of the Tar Sands

Guest Speakers & Film Screening

The operation and development of the tar sands is driving our national agenda on climate change and comes at a high cost to the surrounding environment and people. As the G8 / G20 meet in Toronto this summer to discuss, among other matters, maternal and child health and subsidies to fossil fuel industries, it is imperative that our leaders understand the need to address the largest industrial project on the planet, the tar sands, and protect the health of mothers and children at home here in Canada.

This event will help Atlantic Canadians understand the effects the tar sands exploitation has on the people who live downstream and why it is important that we all take action.

Guest Speakers include Jada Voyageur, Member of Athabascan Chipewyan First Nation from Fort Chipewyan, Alberta, and Simon Reece, Downstream Coordinator for the Keepers of the Athabasca. The event will also include a screening of the film "Downstream", a short documentary by Academy Award Nominee Leslie Iwerks.
