An immigrant rights demonstration is being planned for the eve of the federal elections, criticizing the Tory immigration record and its 'ethnic vote' strategy, calling for status for undocumented and migrant workers and public services for immigrant families. Part of the 125th International Workers Day celebrations across the world, the 6th Annual May Day of Action will include undocumented people, refugee claimants, Filipino caregivers, Mexican, Thai and Caribbean migrant agricultural workers from across Ontario as well as community groups, labour unions, student unions, indigenous sovereignty and health organizations.

The colorful, festive protest will begin in Parkdale, where the community mobilized against Daniel Garcia's deportation earlier this year and against police violence during the anti-G20 actions, and march to Dufferin Grove, where the 1st Annual May Day of Action took place, days after Harper came to power and rounded up hundreds of undocumented people, mostly Portuguese construction workers.

When: May 1, 2011, Rally at 1pm, March starts at 2pm.
Visuals: Nearly two thousand people, massive banners, two Samba squads; a massive ballot box; floats representing the MV Sun Sea, SS Ocean Lady, Komagatamaru and the SS St. Louis; puppets of Stephen Harper, Jason Kenney and Vic Toews and visuals of communities displaced by mining and extraction in Central Africa and South America.
