AWARD-WINNING JEWISH-AMERICAN AUTHOR TO GIVE EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT OF OCCUPATION & NON-VIOLENT RESISTANCE IN THE HOLY LAND

Students for Palestinian Rights (SFPR) will be hosting a lecture, Eye Witness in Palestine, by Anna Baltzer at the University of Waterloo.

The event will be presented by Anna Baltzer: a Jewish-American, Columbia University graduate; former-Fulbright scholar; granddaughter of Holocaust refugees; and award-winning lecturer, author, and activist for Palestinian rights. As a volunteer with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank, Baltzer has documented human rights abuses and supported Palestinian-led nonviolent resistance to the Occupation.

Eyewitness in Palestine is a documented, real story of Anna Baltzer’s experience in the occupied Palestinian territories. Raised in California with a traditional view of the Palestinian issue, Baltzer’s perspective changed when she worked with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank.  Her soft but courageous voice for peace and insistence on speaking truth has led to more than 100 television appearances and lectures at more than 300 universities, schools, churches, mosques, and synagogues around the world.  She serves on the Board of Directors of The Research Journalism Institute, Grassroots Jerusalem, and The Council for the National Interest.

Anna Baltzer will speak for 60 minutes and will focus on the daily conditions in the Palestinian occupied territories, Palestinian prisoners, military checkpoints, segregation, the segregation wall, and Israeli settlements. She will also provide a historical review of the occupation and its conflicts. A slideshow of pictures will complement the lecture as we hope to spread greater awareness of the Palestinian issue. We believe that this event will offer the K-W community a great opportunity to learn in greater detail about Israel’s human rights abuses in the Occupied Territories.
