Students For Medicare: Students for Medicare is a group of health professional students who have joined together to advocate for maintaining a publicly funded health care system in Canada. We are focused on educating our colleagues as well as the general public on the issues our current health care system, and the solutions that can arise from within a publicly funded model. As the future doctors, nurses and health policy makers of the country, we strongly believe that the solutions for health care lie within the public system originally envisioned by Tommy Douglas and his eventual plan for a second stage of Medicare. We also have a strong commitment to equity and highlighting the importance of the social determinants of health.
