150 workers at the Coast Plaza Hotel on Denman St in Vancouver are fighting for their jobs and their futures. The Coast Plaza Hotel is slated for conversion to apartments. Coast is opening a new hotel nearby in time for the 2010 Olympics, the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel. Yet Coast is refusing to even discuss transfer rights to the new hotel. The long-term Coast Plaza workforce is being sent a message: you have no secure future.
All 150 workers at the Coast Plaza currently earn a Living Wage. Many have worked at the hotel for decades. The average housekeeper has worked 16-1/2 years at the Coast Plaza. Most Coast Plaza workers are women and immigrants.
Come rally with Coast Plaza workers and their supporters on September 11. Deliver a message to Coast: respect your workers, respect their years of service to Coast. Transfer the Coast Plaza workers to the new hotel.
