Joanne is a feminist activist, non-profit leader and undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. She founded the Edmonton-based young women's leadership organization Ophelia's Voice and recently founded a Toronto-based network of young non-profit leaders to discuss and strategize on sector-level issues including funding reform, policy advocacy and intergenerational succession planning. In addition, she currently serves on the governing boards of the Toronto Women's City Alliance and Frontline Partners with Youth Network. Joanne was named one of Alberta's 50 Most Influential People, a YWCA Edmonton Young Woman of Distinction and Global TV Edmonton's Woman of Vision in 2009.
TEDxEdmonton: Activating Ideas is the flagship event of the TEDxEdmonton 2012 series. This full-day conference includes: TED's celebrated format - a suite of short, carefully prepared talks, demonstrations and performances on a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and wonder; TEDTalk videos - a minimum of two pre-recorded talks from the acclaimed TEDTalks video series; and Bias-free programming - a lack of any commercial, religious or political agenda.
