A joint event between Carleton University and the Institute of European, Russian and Eurasian Studies about transatlantic relations and the geopolitics of the high north.

Guest speakser Petra Dolata-Kreutzkamp from the departmant of war studies at King's College, London.

Recent global developments have combined to draw internationl attentiont to the Arcitic. Climate change and the concomitant thawing of the ice has made easier access to the Arcitc. But this accessibility poses challenges to the strategic and political positions of littoral states like Canada, the U.S. and Russia and a number of other Europan Arcitc countries. This lecture will address the prospects for a tranatlantic Arctic agenda to intitate new itnernational governance forums or revive existing institutions. It will also warn of potential conflict areas between Europe, and North America in the High North and speculate over a possible return of the nation-state.
