The recent upheaval at Canada Post has many folks thinking about the loss of front door delivery, or how much more change you’ll need to buy a stamp. But if there’s anyone that deserves our support and solidarity at this time, it’s postal workers. The recent service change announcements were accompanied by the decision to eliminate somewhere between 6,000 and 8,000 jobs at Canada Post. It’s a big issue for workers in this country, and that alone makes it an issue worth discussing.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has a strong history of vocal organizing. The union represents postal workers, both at Canada Post and in the private sector. There’s a great historical timeline, that chronicles important advancements and organizing highlights of the union, here (although it’s now a few years behind!).

If you want to organize and stand with Canada Post workers, consider campaigning on their behalf. There are tons of great materials on this site (it’s also a great place to coordinate with like-minded activists and keep up-to-date on the movement). You can also use the site to find local events in support of postal workers.
