Wearing winter coats and tuques, no doubt. Only in northern Quebec.

It's raining again, and the roads are skating rinks. Frown

Local ladies are forming a choir for th 23rd. The school is putting on a Christmas show. I haven't got my lights up yet, too many building materials between me and Christmas stuff in the garage.

But hey it's Christmas!

Reopening for garage rock:

Thanks for reopening this thread, CF - I've loved it from the first post. And the Wailers are great! How come I never heard that before?

Once again - wow! - I have building materials between me and the Christmas decorations in the garage. No problem - I hate Christmas.

Unionist

Build yourself a meat manger and eat your way to the decorations! See self-help thread on carnivorous nativity scenes.

Excellent! And luckily, the old carol will suit it well:

Quote:
I'm weighin' a manger
No rib 'fore I'm fed
A little more freezer
Steak's round and meat's red.

Design wise these cards are hilariously awesome.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.  My kids still get us up really early.

Bacchus

Merry Christmas to all!!

Oh and I think I might break the rules so if its not too much trouble, can Oldgoat make me a mod, so I can follow the rule of banning myself when I do bad things? Cool

Meanwhile.... The Catholic Church’s angry Christmas

excerpt:

For the holidays this year, the Catholic Church chose to give the world the gift of bizarre, alienating and utterly missing the point rhetoric. Oh, you shouldn’t have! We already got one of those from the NRA!

First, Pope Benedict used his annual holiday message to the Vatican to denounce gay and lesbian progress as a “manipulation of nature” and an “attack” on the family. Now, Cardinal Sean Brady, the Primate of all Ireland, has used the galvanizing death of a pregnant woman in a Galway hospital as an excuse to double down on anti-abortion rhetoric. Guys, maybe next year you could ask Santa for a sense of timing and a pair of ears that aren’t tone-deaf.

I'm rendering a whack of duck fat for some duck confit I'm giving away, sealed in mason jars, for Xmas gifts. It's gonna be awesome.

Unionist

Holy humbug, Batman - our home is filled with the fragrant fat of canard right now! Kinda coincidental. Only ours is for 1) confit of duck risotto, and 2) cassoulet. Not giving any of that stuff away. It may be better to give than to receive, but best of all is eating. We will include guests, of course, as a gesture.

I'm also doing a ducky thing. Though I confess that for the upcoming Solstice supper, I'm probably just picking up a bbq duck at the Southeast Asian grocery near me, Marché Oriental. I am extremely tired, and hope I'll get my cooking mojo back to make a duck tourtière and other ducky stuff.

Evidently there is an Idle No More event at UQAM on the Solstice, and I think a cousin of mine will be speaking (She's Native, I'm not really). The agora there is a great place for a round dance, and has been the scene of many other events.

Catchfire Catchfire's picture

Ha! I am visiting my in-laws right now and "forgot" to bring two of the confit jars for gifts. No way out now -- must eat them myself. It's an Xmas miracle!

Bacchus

I also forgot the homemade vanilla extract I made (visiting inlaws at the Evil Empire)
