My Conservative friend is worried. Whenever the next election comes -- this fall, next spring or next fall -- he thinks his party will lose.
This is less a prediction than a declaration. And it isn't necessarily because of the new seasonally-adjusted polls showing the two major parties tied after the summer's Battle of the Census.
His reasoning is this: the Conservatives will not win a majority, just as they could not in 2004, 2006 and 2008. And another plurality won't be enough this time.
Why? Because this time, my Conservative friend says, the Liberals and the New Democrats will form a coalition government. "They won't let us stay in power," he says. "They can't."
