Look at the list of past Deputy Prime Ministers. Their success rate at winning party leadership is pretty low.
True, although there haven't been that many Deputy PMs in the past, and a lot of them came at the end of a government's time in office.
Freeland probably has a better chance of being a future leader, although there are no guarantees.
