Former NDP MP Paul Dewar dies of cancer

Well-liked by people across the aisle:

John Baird

Devastated to learn of the passing of my friend and former colleague Paul Dewar. An incredibly decent guy and great parliamentarian and champion for Ottawa. He was caring, companionate and competent. Thinking of his family at this difficult time. @PaulDewar #CdnPoli

Jinny Sims:

Heartbroken. Heartfelt condolences to family. ⁦⁩ will always be what is best about humanity and public service. Class act! RIP

Dewar's goodbye letter has been posted on Facebook:

i didn't really know anything about him but those words he left to us....cried.

I did know more about him. I think he lived his life like that most of the time.

Mario Beaulieu:

(English Translation:  On behalf of the Bloc Québécois, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and friends and colleagues of Paul Dewar, former NDP member of Parliament. One day, we will overcome cancer. We have to. For all those that this disease has snatched from us.)

Ralph Goodale:

Parliament is saddened today by the passing of former NDP MP Paul Dewar - such courage and grace! It was an honour to have served with him in the House. Deep condolences to his family and former colleagues

Tom Mulcair:

Très triste nouvelle. Paul Dewar était un homme exceptionnel. Catherine et moi offrons nos sincères condoléances à sa famille en ce moment si pénible.

Profoundly sad new. Paul Dewar was an incredible human being. Catherine and I offer our sincere condolences to his family.

That was a wonderful final testament. A good man.

Met the guy once at the 2012 leadership convention in TO. He was the type of person that wanted to engage you. Good guy.

Although I knew his brain cancer might bring this sad news sooner than later, I am still very saddened to hear it.

I first met Paul as the cute guy managing all us volunteers on the phone banks working for Marion Dewar's bid for the provincial seat for Ottawa Centre (previously held by Evelyn Gigantes). Everyone around me knew him and loved him. I was new to the scene but he did seem like a force - charmng, in-charge and kind. RIP Paul.

Rabble's eulogy of unstinting political praise was in "News" rather than a "Blog" titled:
Paul Dewar was a true champion of the little guy

It is indeed sad for the family and friends of Paul Dewar, and he may have been a nice guy for those who met him, but one can't ignore his unfortunate support for the "big guy."
His role included  support for the NDP's new endorsement of NATO  and a  "foreign critic" supporter of Harper in an advocacy  for the US-led aggression against oil-rich Libya. In Canada he was the poster boy for normalizing the deceitful cover story of "humanitatarian intervention".

Unfortunately too many top NDPers are capable and ready to fill his role. Whether through ignorance or something else, they appear incapble of learning from the long history of US-led regime change operations and the misery from the greed that drives them:
