Meeting of the Trolls

And because they want to keep it a secret, they posted it on the internet.

The secret word is "Do you know where I can find a pet shop"

Here's the seductive guy behind it all:

Personally, I don't know what this is all about because I don't know his agenda. But it's interesting so how about an explanation?

And not to change the subject but I would love a conversation on Jian Ghomeshi but I'm not going to introduce the topic. Juet mentioning because it would belong in this section.

Pondering

He thinks rape should be legalized.

Oh! Thanks Pondering. It does take a while to get up to speed with what's going on in this forum. Just found out who Owen Jones is on another thread. I think?

6079_Smith_W

You need me to pull quotes out of those links for you?

No set meeting here in Saskatoon, but I am sure there must be a few as we regularly see posters in the neighbourhood slinging that crap.

Though it has been a few months.  Maybe something happened and he figured out they aren't the enemy, nor are they responsible for all his problems.

6079_Smith_W

and apparently it is only for straight guys. Go figure.

I didn't really read all that much at their site, but I'm left wondering what all these vanguards are supposed to do once they've validated each others' inclusion with the secret question.  "Let's all go get some brewskis and wind each other up with stories of women we hate"?

6079_Smith_W

My guess is video games. And of course complaining about how women are taking over video games.

Go to the bars in the hopes of finding vulnerable women that will fall for their lines and go somewhere with them where they will be raped.

We discussed this last August:

We discussed him.

This is a series of get togethers  this weekend (and the fact that some of them are going to be on couches in malls tells you what they expect for a turnout) .

To their credit, though, a meet up in NEPAL??

Sorry, my non-paranoid phrasing. I meant, "we discussed THIS:" - "THIS" meaning this news story, the one I linked to. I was just trying to familiarize some people here with Roosh who may have had difficulty googling the name.

While Rush had some great songs I think this group are ZZ Tops fans. A pro-rape group. I wonder if Ghomeshi will be at one of the events.

This article appeared in a Victoria media outlet.

Quote:

The group believe rape should be legalised on private property and that women are biologically determined to follow the orders of men.

I am hearing via FB that they have closed down their membership list, and the little "pet shop" trick is off.

And this:

Hopefully someone will get a spy in there to see if there is actually anything going on other than whatshisname trying to sell his books.

Why would he be, it's not his style. Unless you are trying to suggest that some women will attend that have something in common with the sort of women Ghomeshi preys upon. Are you?

Gustave

I'd be curious to know if anyone here seriously believes that RooshV litterally wants to legalize rape.

I personally don't know and onlly heard of this the other day. But it's a good question. I think I know what they are trying to do but it's not something I can talk about openly. I will in a p.m. if invited.

Or maybe I could but I'm not going to risk it.

6079_Smith_W

He has said so quite clearly, even though he peppered that article with claims he knows women he does not want to be assaulted, and gave lots of stereotypes of what he thinks real rapists are.

Even if you give him the benefit of the doubt that he wasn't serious in that blog he wrote, clearly he doesn't understand that sexual assault on a woman who cannot or does not give explicit consent IS sexual assault.

So now you are an expert on Ghomesi's style. The depth of your knowledge never ceases to astound me. I thought that from the reports I had read Ghomeshi could have written a guest chapter for this misogynist asshole's book on picking up women.

I love how easily you slip into the subtle attacks on women to deflect from the real issue of this pro-rape group and how Ghomeshi also appears to believe that consent is not required and it is his prerogative to sexually assault someone because they fell for one of his pickup lines.

Pondering

It doesn't matter one iota whether this man is sincere in his beliefs or not. He promotes mysogyny and violence against women nor is he doing men any favors by leading them into behaviors that are sure to guarantee their continued failure with women.

The solution to rape is very simple.

6079_Smith_W

As I said, even if one takes it as satire, and ignores the victim-blaming,  it is pretty clear that Roosh does not recognize that some things which are criminal are sexual assault.

So yes, even giving him the greatest benefit of the doubt (and I don't), he wants to legalize rape.

It's a rhetoric device, not something he wants to be done for real. It's also, evidently, a huge publicity stunt that worked way over any expectations.

Vinay Menon wrote a good piece on it in the Toronto Star. http://www.rooshv.com/how-to-stop-rape

Disclaimer: the point of this post is not to take position on RooshV's initiative (he's just a businessman in my opinion) but to provide evidence that he does not litterally recommand we legalize rape.

That is no thought experiment. He is holding women responsible for their own rape.

He knows it's never going to happen but that doesn't mean he doesn't believe that it should.

He actively counsels men to view women as prey and to pressure or manipulate them including continuing physically after being rejected. In other words not to take no for an answer.

He promotes rape culture.

This is what his followers need:

It appears the western mayors are unanimous on this... you are not welcome. Although the cheeky part of me wishes the local police chiefs would send out their vice squads with instructions in interpret "Do you know where I can find a pet shop" as an attempt at solicitation.

I would love to bump in to that piece of trash in a bar and agressively hit on him non-stop.

Gustave

And of course if he says he has no willingness whatsoever to legalize rape, he must want to legalize rape.

If the OP thinks the secret meeting places posted on the Internet (lol) are to gather rape apologists, then it must be the case.

I'm out of this.

Not to interrupt you in the middle of such a grand flounce, but where did he say that?

monty1

Personally, I'm totally in favour of furthering of the feminist cause but it's very unfortuante it can't be advanced here because of the limits of free speech that are being imposed. But here goes anyway. Their cause could very well be nothing more sophisticated than seeing how many women they can attract to their meeting places.

And if that's over the top for this forum then so long, it's been good to know ya.

Maybe you understand things better when they are spoken to you. Let's try. But I doubt it will. Simply try to gather your attantion for 7 minutes, and you may understand. The guy is an attention whore and a pretty succesfull businessman. He has nothing to do with MRAs. He feeds successfully from people like you who can't understand second degree. (Note to self: he will say the video is appalling and miss the answer. He will also accuse me to think the same way this guy does and miss the answer).

I hope they meet as planned because these women say they would love to get to know them on an in your face basis.

I'm sure that babblers would LIKE to believe that plenty of members of MRAs aren't silently nodding when Roosh blames women for their own rape, but what if we just can't??

What if, on the Venn diagram of it all, the MRA circle and Roosh's circle overlap, like, a lot?

6079_Smith_W

I guess I should have been suspicious since you didn't provice a timestamp.

Was that just a trick to get me to listen to that crap for the whole seven minutes?

Nowhere in there did he say that he has no willingness to legalize rape, or that he was joking, or that it was just satire.

But thank you, because it did convince me that he really means what he is saying, along with the fact that he thinks women should not be able to get drunk, and that awoman should not go into a room with a man if she doesn't expect to get attacked. Really, that he blames women for being assaulted by men.

The more I listen to this fellow I have to wonder why he wants to spend any time with women at all, considering how much hatred he has for them.

Rape is not about sex it's about power. Its really that simple.

Unionist

Why would any decent and sensible people discuss whether a piece of shit like Roosh "wants" rape legalized? How about discussing whether he "wants" world peace or expanded rural access to health care? He belongs in the toilet, with a working flushing mechanism.

As for having debates here with "MRA" (not sure why they should be graced with their own acronym?), why not simply explain, in very slow comprehensible short words, that they should peddle their wares elsewhere?

Denis Coderre (for all his faults) has reiterated his statement of last August that Roosh isn't welcome in Montréal.

6079_Smith_W

@ kropotkin

Yes, I know. Though in there he warns about women who stand up for themselves being a threat, so obviously he wants women around, if only as something to serve him. It's like he can't figure out which head he wants to be thinking with, because really, in the big one up top, he hates women. It is hard to believe someone could be so unaware of the crap that is coming out of his mouth.

Or that anyone could be so stupid as to believe it.

6079_Smith_W

Because Unionist, I don't run this site, and it's not my call to tell someone to fuck off and have them disappear just because I might want them to.

And really, I haven't seen that tactic be too effective. It hasn't made anyone shut up and go away that I can remember.

If you don't want to engage, fine. I also have limits to how far I am willing to go with it, and it does try my patience. But I also don't feel like letting these ideas go unquestioned.

Great publicity for him really.  Announces fake meetings gets people pissed off,  word is spread,  counter protests are organized,  he pulls out of the planned meetings last minute with his 15min uses of spotlight and hits to his Web page and YouTube channel.

6079_Smith_W

Actually all he has done is moved it underground.

Paladin1

All that would do is turn it in to a big game of cat and mouse of where the meetings may or may not be, with fake email accounts, fake personalities and all the other juvinile stuff that comes with angry adults on the internet.

Mr. Magoo Mr. Magoo's picture

He may have succeeded at one thing:  making his little movement seem important and dangerous to some people.

There's no better publicity for outcasts than the perception that the state must intervene to stop them, because they're on the verge of becoming a mass movement that will turn society upside down, or because they have the courage to speak inconvenient truths, or because they challenge the hegemonic status quo or whatever.

So while it was nice to see city officials unanimously tell them to fuck off, to some prospective supporters that's just evidence that Roosh isn't a joke -- he must be a Very Important Man.
