E-Learning for Working with Women Leaving Abusive Relationships

This 5-week online course will provide participants with current, relevant and accessible legal information so that they can assist women in navigating the family law system in Ontario upon relationship breakdown, especially where there is a history of partner abuse, or where such abuse is suspected.
Topics covered include: Intro to Family Law, Marriage and Divorce, Common Law Relationships, Custody and Access, Child Protection and Violence Against Women, When is Mediation Appropriate, and Property Division
Who this course is for: This course is designed for VAW staff, and others who provide services to women who may disclose abuse, such as counsellors, social workers, educators, advocates, settlement workers, support group facilitators/leaders, and front-line crisis or women's shelter workers.
Course Dates: February 11, 2009, to March 18, 2009
Course Format: Course is delivered entirely ONLINE - you can view the weekly video lectures, read course materials, and complete assignment anytime, 24hrs a day, according to your own schedule. (Required time commitment is approximately 3 hrs/week)
This course is delivered in partnership with York University, Department of Continuing Education, Atkinson College - who will award a Certificate of Completion to all participants who fulfill the course requirements
