8.3 magnitude earthquake, a million evacuees, tsunami warnings.
Not a lot of news yet (I've been reading Spanish-language sources, but am also going back to bed).
I have friends in Santiago, including a younger friend living and doing post-doc work there (his companion is Chilean and they have small children) and older friends who spend half their year there - they were refugees here and both worked in the labour movement until their retirement. Of course I'm not going to try to contact them.
Chile does seem to have relatively good building codes, as there was relatively little damage from the last major quake. Just hoping that the damage and especially the deaths and injuries are limited.
