Ontario reports 2,448 new coronavirus cases, 10 more COVID-19 deaths Sunday. 917 pandemic patients hospitalized, 366 in intensive care. Province completed 64,950 vaccinations Saturday.

"100% of my COVID-19 ICU patients have the variant. Average age is 53. Despite the majority being essential workers, none of them would have been eligible for vaccination yet. Red/Gray Zone areas need vaccine supply proportionate to COVID prevalence."

Draft Report of Joint WHO-China study says it's 'extremely unlikely' COVID-19 originated from lab leak

"...Based primarily on data collected during a WHO-fact-finding mission to Wuhan, the report states that transmission of the virus from bats to humans through another animal is the most likely scenario, the Associated Press said, citing a draft copy. The study also dismissed the theory that the virus may have originated from a laboratory as 'extremely unlikely.'

'Ontario Has Lost Control Over the Pandemic'

"410 COVID ICU patients - 46 new patients since yesterday which is a one-day record. Claiming there are ICU beds which can't be staffed won't help us. Ontario Government has lost control over the pandemic. Please stay home if you can."

On the positive side, my wife and I, both in the 70-75 age cohort, were able to make appointments online yesterday to get our first vaccine shots this Friday. I'm surprised there hasn't been a more enthusiastic uptake of the vaccination opportunities here in Hamilton, but I am pleased to get a vaccination so soon.

My mother-in law who is 91 had her shot. In BC they are at the 73 year old booking stage and next will be the 70 to 72 which includes me. My wife is not yet 65 so it will be sometime before they get to her age.

I am one of those folks who has never gotten a flu shot because I never get the flu, however COVID is not the flu. On the plus side Canada is so far behind in vaccinating people we have millions of people internationally who have already received whatever type of jab one gets. So all in all, it appears it can't kill me and might even immunize me if I'm lucky. I will be booking at the first opportunity.

Glad to hear it's all working out for some here because if they were unfortunate enough to be in an ltc home there's a good chance they'd be dead by now.

Is this a new form of virtue signalling? If I was either my brother or my son I would already be dead from the gaps in the social service and health care systems and that is before COVID, so what the fuck is your point?

The point was to emphasize #2407 and such appalling unacceptable conditions as you yourself allude to. Nothing else.

COVID-19 Pandemic LIVE: World Map/Count

COVID-19: Experts warn of failing to rapidly 'vaccinate the world' and creating dangerous opening for virus

"Epidemiologists from dozens of countries around the world issued a loud warning Tuesday that failure to ensure global administration of COVID-19 vaccines within the next year - at the very latest - could allow vaccine-resistant variants to spread among unprotected populations to such an extent that current shots are rendered ineffective.

'Unless we vaccinate the world, we leave the playing field open to more and more mutations, which could churn out variants that could evade our current vaccines and require booster shots to deal with them..."

The Antiscientific Campaign to Promote 'Living with the Virus'

"In much the same way that repeated lockdowns and reopenings have inured some people to accept the permanence of the virus, the talk of the virus becoming endemic is employed against any further mitigation efforts which impinge on profit accumulation. A cohesive international strategy employing the public health tools that are within our grasp could bring the contagion under control before it becomes endemic at the cost of milllions of lives. They would use the deployment of COVID-19 vaccines to anaesthetize the public against the impending catastrophe, although this is only possible in a handful of wealthy countries where vaccine supplies are ample..."

PS: A Message To Toronto Mayor John Tory:  The TTC is Killing Us!

Why is my transit system more crowded than ever? Why is Toronto not doing something to alleviate this Top Transmitter of Covid? Earlier in the first wave this was done. More buses were added.  The present situation is completely unsatisfactory and unacceptable and makes a nonsense of all your public health promotions about what Toronto is doing to protect its citizenry from COVID-19 infection. Or is the intention to cull those who don't own cars?  Please fix this now before TTC kills even more Torontonians!

I wonder what their medical advice is. Do they have information that playing hockey makes you less likely to spread COVID-19? Or have they known for a while that 2 weeks is excessive, but only waived it for the wealthy?

The theory that playing hockey makes you safe from COVID is looking less plausible.

EU Medicines Regulator Finds Possible Link Between AstraZeneca Covid Vaccine and Blood Clots

"...Unusual blood clotting, with low blood platelets will be added as a 'very rare' side effect to the vaccine's product information, along with a slew of other possible adverse reactions, Emer Cooke, executive director of the European Medicines Agency, said in a televised news conference Wednesday. The EMA, which flagged other possible side-effects, added that it was of 'great importance' that health-care professionals and people receiving the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine were made aware of the risks and to watch for possible symptoms that typically occur in the first two weeks after innoculation.

'These include, for example, shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling in the leg, persistent abdominal pain, neurological symptoms including severe or persistent headache or blurred vision and skin-bruising beyond the site of injection,' Dr Sabine Strauss, chair of EMA's safety committee said at the same news conference."

US Begins Study on Allergic Reaction Risk in Moderna, Pfizer Vaccines

If someone has a severe allergic reaction after getting the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, the CDC recommends that they do not get the second dose of that vaccine, even if the allergic reaction was not severe enough to require emergency care."

Communication throughout this pandemic has been very poor across the board, some provinces worse than others. Obviously nobody likes being the bearer of bad news but the light touch, followed by pussy footing and then followed by back-tracking with scolding or alarming the public only serves to confuse at best, anger or encourage widespread social media bullshit that contradicts the facts.
