Cruel but fair.

I do not understand what you mean you clap to my comment below this. Can you be clearer as we are obviously not understanding each other well at the moment.

I understand the anger. I have always felt that the safest and best end of the Trump administration is death by cheeseburger.

However, I do not call for this publicly very much becuase I think that reduces my own credibility. I definitely draw the line at any communicable disease that could infect others spreading around a community that represents probably as many people as the number who live in Canada.

I have been saying the greatest danger to Canadian public health at this moment is the mismangement and spread of this virus by idiots in the US.

I also consider that the Trump Train is a cult. It has many of the characteristics of a cult. For this reason, I fear that there are people caucght up for a number of vulnerabilities in this group. They also have people near to them who care about them. I am reminded about this as I even have a friend who is deep in this and we cannot talk politics. It is difficult to describe or even understand how people can fall for what Trump is so obviously to us. Nevertheless it is happening. I cannot bring myself to wish death on all his supporters no matter how angry I am with this cult.

For the leadership I care little becuase I think they well understand what they are. But any opportunity for them to destroy themselves I woudl want limited to them and not part of a dangerous international health emergency.

ETA - you said in your post and I read over it too fast that Trumpers include the mentally ill. I agree. I categorically do not call for punishment of the mentally ill and I suspect that you do not as well. Perhaps you can see my point and retract the statement even though we both know and agree on where it is coming from and what you meant by it. I share your fury. I just cannot believe that you have fully thought through the implications of what you said.

Fair enough.I didn't mean to demean or offend the mentally ill. I just strongly believe that most of that country should be on ant-psychotic meds.

The issue, I retract that the wording in my comment.

No Trumpists in my family. I do have a couple right wing friends. But they are fiscal conservatives not far right lunatic conservative.

I wouldn't want my friends getting this virus, in fact I wish it on NO ONE. Except that orange maggot and his followers.

Sophie Gregoire Trudeau Tests Positive For COVID-19, PM Begins 14 - Day Isolation

Seems reasonable to imagine that if Mrs T has it Mr T may have it too. But as it just wouldn't do to have a poxy pm, we shall perhaps pretend otherwise. But never mind because Queen Chrystia of Coronavirus has our helm heaven help us all..

"...Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said she spoke with Trudeau several times on Thursday and that he sounded 'energetic as usual.' 'He sounded fantastic. He's very much in charge,'

Freeland told CTV's Power Play, adding that Trudeau spoke with at least three G7 leaders on the phone and participated in an ad hoc meeting on the Coronavirus. 'How I would describe it is the prime minister is working from home and he has been working really hard.'

NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh also revealed Thursday that he is in self-isolation after falling ill. Liberal MP Anthony Housefather, Natural Resources Minister Seamus O'Reagan and International Trade Minister Mary Ng are also in self-isolation..."

By the way, Trump had been meeting with Tropical Trump Jair Bolsonaro at Mar-al-Lago. Brazilian press had reported the Bolsonaro tested positive (but now are saying he tested negative). Yes, I certainly agree that seeing disease as punishment is utterly wrong - in this case obviously poor and otherwise vulnerable people will certainly be the hardest-hit, starting with the homeless, overcrowded and Indigenous populations. But Trump and Tropical Trump are particularly despicable members of the human species...

Judging by the last four years, Trump's psychopathy breeds more psychopathy in others. Hate breeds hate. Trump has turned out to be a classic psychopath. His picture could be used next to the definition of "psychopathy." It's hard to believe people could have voted for such a psychopath. Trump didn't vote in himself. The people who voted for Trump should bear responsibility for voting in such a psychopathic  person.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychopathy

Quote:

Psychopathy is traditionally a personality disorder characterized by persistent antisocial behavior, impaired empathy and remorse, and bolddisinhibited, and egotistical traits.

...

The triarchic model suggests that different conceptions of psychopathy emphasize three observable characteristics to various degrees. Analyses have been made with respect to the applicability of measurement tools such as the Psychopathy Checklist (PCL, PCL-R) and Psychopathic Personality Inventory (PPI) to this model.

  • Boldness. Low fear including stress-tolerance, toleration of unfamiliarity and danger, and high self-confidence and social assertiveness. The PCL-R measures this relatively poorly and mainly through Facet 1 of Factor 1. Similar to PPI Fearless dominance. May correspond to differences in the amygdala and other neurological systems associated with fear.
  • Disinhibition. Poor impulse control including problems with planning and foresight, lacking affect and urge control, demand for immediate gratification, and poor behavioral restraints. Similar to PCL-R Factor 2 and PPI Impulsive antisociality. May correspond to impairments in frontal lobe systems that are involved in such control.
  • Meanness. Lacking empathy and close attachments with others, disdain of close attachments, use of cruelty to gain empowerment, exploitative tendencies, defiance of authority, and destructive excitement seeking. The PCL-R in general is related to this but in particular some elements in Factor 1. Similar to PPI, but also includes elements of subscales in Impulsive antisociality.

Unfortunately the Coronavirus crisis has completely exposed Trump's psychopathy.

E.T.A.:

I think Trump should not be hated because he clearly suffers from a mental illness. However, he should never have been able to become president. I think Trump becoming president says more about those who enabled Trump to attain that highest of offices than it does about Trump himself. I don't think Trump can help himself. He just can't control his personality disorder enough to be the leader of the most powerful country in the world.

Not everything is a mental illness and mental illness does not excuse all bad behavior. Mentally ill people can make good and bad choices just like everyone else. Not all pedophiles act on their urges. Nor is Trump acting alone. He is supported by a huge number of powerful elites within his administration and without. I am not comparing him to Hitler but he too was supported by powerful people. He didn't act alone and regular everyday people carried out his evil plans even against neighbours they had known for years.

I don't believe in capital punishment nor torture so I wouldn't wish this virus on anyone but it would be poetic justice for some elites to be hit. It is the jet set that delivered this worldwide.

As I said upthread. This is a terrible thing to want.

One of the reasons the US is so vulnerable is the volume of in-country travel. Elites may have the best healthcare but it is not as if they will keep a spread among themselves.

This comment is staggering: "Mentally ill people can make good and bad choices just like everyone else." I had thought from previous posts that you actually had an understanding of mental illness. It can impair judgment and perception and it can make people vulnerable to those around them. Often those with mental illness are not impaired in judgment. But not always. The range of mental illnesses are as varied as any other illnesses. It is a constructed division in health between the two so called types of illness. The most common mental illnesses do impair judgment, however, I am speaking about depression. And they do this in difficult to understand and very individual ways.

I understand the emotion behind this and the logic of the anger. The logic does not extend to the content, however. The fact is with most of the ills of the world it is the elite that contribute most to the problem and the vulnerable who pay the price. There is no poetic justice in any of this.

There is no poetic justice in harm to people - even the depraved and certainly not to vulnerable people caught up in horrible movements. I have spoken about the fact that I am okay with death by cheeseburger for Trump. I do not say this out of any desire for suffereing but out of the fact that he is just one asshole life and he is such a danger for others. I say it becuase I find it hard to imagine him being voted out of office and him accepting that result. But there would be no joy in the idea that Trump would have this virus (black humour maybe) becuase it would mean more spread.

Canadians are very trusting generally. We expect competence in our leadership. Sadly much that should be being done is not.

Two days ago I received a package for a person not at home who lives in my house. Would you beleive it the courier whipped out a cellphone for me to sign with my finger. Without thinking I did so. I was in the process of planning for CV19 and about an hour later I realzied the implications both of what I had done and the fact that public health has not ordered couriers to stop doing this presently insane practice.

The courier company was delivering products for amazon. I wonder how many people in self isolation had order from amazon and handled that dirty phone.

The day before yesterday I decided to get a haircut becuase I though before it really takes hold in Ottawa I better get that done as I doubt I will be doing it for 3-6 months. The place I went to had no planning. was using no masks, had received no calls from public health.

How long would it take for someone at a city's public health to reach out to all the coutiers and personal services like hair salons, barbers and such? A day? What is the point of all this public relations when the basic things are not being done.

Governments in all countries and jurisdictions seem to be continually doing what they should have been doing a month ago.

No confidence is possible when you see things like this.

Also Ottawa Public Health is closed today. Restaurants are open. Ottawa public health could hire many people laid off from risky work and train them to go on the phones to give and recieve information.

What is wrong with this picture????

Absolutely.

I also am hearing minimal support for frontline workers. I know one personally and do not want to risk identifying this person. However, the protections offered are in my view completely unimpressive.

Homeless people are people who have been largely discarded by society. It is shameful under any conditions. In an emergency such as this it is tragic and ought to be criminal if a society actually cared about its people.

If de Blasio won’t #closenycpublicschools to protect students and their families, teachers will #sickout

Despite the temporary closure of a few New York City schools (slated to re-open Monday), it has become clear that it is past time to close the school system entirely.

As education workers, we know firsthand that families rely on the schools for food, child care and even laundry. We demand that the closure of schools be accompanied by efforts to distribute food to families who need it and as medical centers or care centers for children of healthcare workers, as suggested by NYC Council Member Mark Treyger.

NYC Council Speaker Corey Johnson has repeatedly called for the closure of schools. Parents and parent advocates from around the city, as well as the CDC, have also called for closure. Department chairs in the city council have also called for closure. When will the mayor listen?

However, it is clear that the socially responsible course of action is to #FlattenTheCurve on the outbreak. Transmission is clearly already happening in the schools, and the sooner it stops the fewer people will die.

As education workers concerned about the safety and education of our students we call on DOE to #closenycpublicschools immediately.  We also demand:

All temporary public shelters should be kept open during the day.

Food should be made available to those who depend on public school meals, as is done in the summer.

Freeze rent and extend the moratorium on evictions (sign a petition here for that demand).

Pressure Spectrum, Verizon, Optimum, and other providers to open up free internet for public school students to ensure continuity of instruction. Pressure Google to provide free Chromebooks for students who need them.

Encourage employers to allow all parents/guardians to stay home to care for their children. Provide real estate tax relief to enable small businesses to provide sick days.

Establish an emergency fund to help affected businesses and their workers, regardless of immigration status.

Clinics testing and testing should be free of charge for anyone, with or without medical insurance, and should require no paperwork indicating immigration status so that all community members can seek treatment without fear.

Streamline emergency unemployment for workers who get laid off due to staying home

Ensure patients and those likely to get COVID-19 have the medical checkups and treatment quickly. Those under quarantine should be taken care of medically and financially

Coronavirus sparks nationwide strikes in Italy

Unions are calling for a halt to all non-essential production to ensure safety and sanitation of workplaces.

quote:

While governments across Europe are calling on employees to work from home, there are many Italian workers whose jobs can only be performed in supermarkets, factories, docks and steelmills.

Spontaneous strikes started on Thursday and are now mushrooming throughout Italy, with workers concerned their employers were not guaranteeing protection from the spread of the virus.

Going outside for a walk: not cancelled

Sean in Ottawa
Douglas Fir Premier

Chief Medical Officer of Health for the City of Ottawa: Do not go out for non-essential reasons

"People should stay home unless there is an essential reason to take a trip to the grocery store, to a pharmacy, to look after an ill friend or family member."

Pondering

Sean, I have personal experience with multiple members of my family having a variety of mental issues. While mental illness does affect judgement in many ways there are plenty of mentally ill people who still know the difference between right and wrong and choose wrong because they they think they can get away with it or for the many reasons perfectly sane people choose wrong. Trump and the administration supporting him are sadly not insane. They do know what they do.

I said I would not wish this on anyone, that includes Trump and the "some elites" I referred to. This is what poetic justice means.

Poetic justice is a literary device in which ultimately virtue is rewarded and viciousness is punished. In modern literature it is often accompanied by an ironic twist of fate related to the character's own action.

It would be both ironic and poetic justice if Trump and his cohorts in crime die from Covic-19. That doesn't mean I actively wish it.

These people are destroying the planet we need to live on. Air travel is one of the serious culprits. Millions of people will suffer, maybe die, from the coming economic collapse but you can be sure the wealthy will be safe both physically and ecomically. Like 2008 they will expect bailouts and get them. Technically the system will hold but it will feel just like a depression to many.

Governments are talking about helping small businesses but they are talking loans and for some that won't be enough to stop them from going under and staff will lose their jobs all along the suppy chain. The cruise industry and tourism in general will not just bounce back for this summer. Where are students going to work? This will be devastating for countries like Bangladesh.

Thousands if not millions will die as a direct result of the greed of the richest people in the world and their minions.
