Free Mauritanian Biram Dah Abeid and other anti-slavery activists.

Mauritania has one of the worst records of slavery in the modern world. Although freed at birth by his mother's slavemaster, Mr. Abeid is sitting in jail in Mauritania for his work in fighting slavery.

About 0.5% of the world's population (some 35,000,000 million people) still live in abject slavery, which is one of the first five things prohibited by the UN Declaration of Human Rights.

Whether our families have been free for 20 generations or 1 like Mr. Abied, slavery must be abolished for every person on this planet.

"Walk Free" is a good organization in this struggle, and they have managed to put pressure on corporate retailers to end the Thai slave-powered trade in seafood.

I'm glad to hear about this. I knew about Mauritania, and the revelations about actual slavery in the Southeast Asian seafood industry certainly put me off Thai shrimp (which has other ecological problems). Here is the website for that group: http://www.walkfree.org/
