"How obscenely ironic. Embassies traditionally symbolize diplomacy and peace. The opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem was occasioned by a grotesque baptism of murder of Palestinians, heralding wider war in the Middle East.

"There is no flag large enough to cover the shame of killing innocent people."
"Many killed in Gaza today: this must stop! The NDP once again calls for an independent investigation into Gaza violence. We oppose Trump's decision on Jerusalem, which is against international law and hinders the peace process."
Palestine needs more than the occasional tweet from you when Israel decides to 'mow the lawn' and it becomes politically expedient to do so, NDP. Talk is cheap. Stop Supporting Israel!
Some might remember Jeffress for his frequent condemnations of Mormonism as a "cult" during the 2012 presidential campaign and his urging of Christians not to vote for Mitt Romney, a Mormon, during the Republican primary.
For many evangelicals, Jerusalem becoming the capital of Israel is part of God's plan for the end times. According to their belief system, it signals the end times when only righteous true believers (the evangelicals who have these beliefs) will ascend to heaven. (https://www.cnn.com/2017/12/08/opinions/jerusalem-israel-evangelicals-en...)
Why would Trump have Jeffress who says the Jews cannot be saved take part in the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem? Because Trump, who has 80% support among evangelicals, is using the move to cement the evangelical vote among his base primarily, and only secondarily courting Jewish and Israeli support.
And Netanyahu doesn’t care because he want all the Jews in the world to emigrate there. That’s a precondition for the return of Jesus, according to the fundies.
Actually, I’ve seen more critical coverage on the non-right wing channels, like MSNBC and CNN, than I ever have before. Same with the N.Y. Times, although they pull their punches. And this was on N.Y. area newsstands:
"The top Democrat in the US Senate has thrown his support for US President Donald Trump's controversial relocation of the country's embassy in Israel. 'In a long overdue move, we have moved our embassy to Jerusalem. Every nation should have the right to choose its capital,' Senate Minority Leader Charles Shuner said in a statement. 'I sponsored legislation to do this two decades ago, and I applaud President Trump for doing it."
"The Russian top diplomat stated that Moscow was ready to fully facilitate dialogue between Palestine and Israel on the Jerusalem issue. That status of Jerusalem is one of the key issues concerning the Israel-Palestine conflict.
Israel, who seized the eastern party of the city during the 1967 war, insists that Jerusalem is the single indivisable capital of the country, while Palestinians wish to make the eastern part of the city the capital of their state."
"Trump's Ambassador to Israel is all smiles as he receives a huge fly-by photograph of Jerusalem, with the most beautiful building in the country and the 3rd-holiest site in Islam photoshopped out and replaced with a Jewish temple for mass animal sacrifice."
"We will not give up Jerusalem or one inch of Palestine. Free people of the world, let's unite to put an end to exploitation, to capitalism, colonialism and imperialism!"
It is only in the alternate reality of failed communist revisionism that the losers set the agenda. Palestinians have been pawns of PLO gangsters for decades and will be better served by getting their entitlements back from Sufa Arafat than moaning on about Jerusalem.
History will show the real 'losers' are not the indomitable Palestinian resistors like Ahed Tamimi but the dwindling, deluded and deplorable water-carriers of Canada's Zionist Left.
Whatever. Excuse me for not having Palestinian misfortunes on my bucket list. My greater concern is the deluded, deplorable Canadian water-carriers of America's Imperialist Right aiding and abetting the theft of Canadian resources.

Then why are you posting in a thread about Palestine? Just to say you don't give a shit I guess.

Its not that I dont "give a shit", it has to do with larger problems at home in Canada. I have been following Palestinian travails for decades, generations of Palestinians in camps. The only thing that has changed is the names and faces of their oppressors - the Palestinian leadership. From Arafat stealing aid to fund his widow's extravagant lifestyle in Paris to the current leaders stealing their lives and future to continue a senseless campaign of violence. The Palestinian people are pawns in a greater game.
I read many topics without comment but sometimes add my opinion. I believe it is fair commentary to suggest we have solvable concerns at home to address rather than soaking in moral outrage about foreign concerns we cannot solve.
Except that most of those problems have no small connection to the policies of our governments and other interests. We have contributed to the problems in the Middle East for over 100 years now. It isn't just their problem, and actually we do have power to change it.
I had a tremendous amount of respect For Yassar Arafat. He was an extremely good leader for the Palestinians in the West Bank.
MartinN,
The Palestinian leadership have always had a much better grip on what's going on in the lives of Palestinians than you ever will and it poignantly shows with your anti-Palestinian bias and misinformation you have absorbed over the years.
I lived through some of the years of South African apartheid. Your attitude by your written logic was to not focus on it because it was beyond our control and that we had more important issues to focus on here at home.
I was very much focused on South Africa during my years with Apartheid as the rule of law. I am proud that I participated in demonstrations against it and wrote letters of protest through Amnesty International. I attended lectures and listened to guest speakers talk about the human rights abuses.
Apathy and disinterest only feeds the oppressors and allows the abuses and human rights atteocities to continue unchallenged
