A google search for "NATO HPWS" returns none of the technical articles I would expect to see about a popular web server. In fact it returns nothing but stories about this particular domain. I really don't know what to make of this, but it sure doesn't look like an actual NATO server, and if I had to guess, I would say the site is probably actually running apache or some other common server, but lying in its http headers.

Ditto. This particular story, actually.

And yeah, on the microsoft bit I was guessing, since the page seems to have a lot of microsoft ads. It certainly isn't in Brussels.

Your guess is the name is as bogus as Ms. Dingbatter? Not the first time I have seen a blind alley like this when it comes to this kind of propaganda.

And I'm not surprised that most servers are unix-based, despite MS's attempts to break into the server market. I don't know about most places, but our host - sasktel - still has the option to request unix.

Russian FM: Kiev Vowed to Hold Direct Dialogue with Donetsk, Lugansk

"The direct dialogue is Kiev's commitment, in line with the [Minsk] agreements,' Lavrov said, in comments on a statement by his Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin that 'Kiev will not hold a direct dialogue with the representatives of Donetsk and Lugansk as Russia wants it to.'

'It is clear why Kiev drags out the formation of working groups,' Lavrov said. 'It proves Kiev's unwillingness to begin practical implementations of the Minsk-2 accords.'

Unanimously adopting Resolution 2202 (2015), Security Council calls on all parties to fully implement the Package of Measures for the implementation of the Minsk Agreement.

Putin on Minsk

"These Minsk Agreements are not simply a document that was developed by the participants of the Minsk process. Korwin-Mikke: Maidan Snipers Were Trained in Poland

"Maidan was also our operation. The snipers were trained in Poland These terrorists shot 40 demonstrators and 20 police officers on the Maidan in order to provoke disorder,' said the EU Parliament Deputy and presidential candidate Janusz Korwin Mikke.

'What NATO? The Americans! War is useful only from the American point of view. There are interest groups in the US which are pushing for armed conflict: defense industry, financiers, some politicians, generals, but also many people (some of whom I know personally) from among the neo-conservatives.

They are analyzing the situation with cold logic: we have built the mightiest army in the world, but we also have $14 Trillion dollars in debt and we can't afford further development. China, which supports Russia, will soon overtake us. Therefore, if we are to preserve our global hegemony we have to start. In a few years at the latest...Ukraine is a very convenient pretext.

Poland is in a position to prevent WWIII by declaring neutrality when it comes to Ukraine. Like Slovakia, Hungary and Belarus, which don't take part in this anti-Russian frenzy. We might save the world if we deprive the US Army of access to Ukraine."

Read the comments on that article. It is a stream of racist tirades, most of it not coming from the people he accuses in the article.

This isn't the first piece I have read about a Jewish person going to Lviv and being shocked. And while I am sure that someone going there might be shocked by racism and discrimination like any outsider (I have been to a few places where I have had that feeling), and the terrible history of that place is a fact, it does seem kind of constructed.

As for his charges, no, Lviv is not the only place where discriminatory material is being sold freely. If he is shocked by an old piece of jewellry with a crude swastika on it he might want to look at that symbol's pre-Nazi use:

And I wonder what kind of reaction I would get if I wrote that many people In Quebec can speak English just fine if they have to. The author's comment about English and Russian seems kind of out of place with the rest of the article, and makes me wonder if pointing out the Nazis is the real purpose here.

Yeah, what's a swastica among goose-stepping friends, huh, Smith?

Der Führer's Face

Well if you don't know its history, it is kind of dumb, actually.

If you bothered to click on the link above, you'd see it was a common symbol, and traditional in slavic cultures long before the Nazis adopted it. It was the symbol of one of the Polish army regiments right up until the war, and there are plenty of clearer examples than a cross inside of a square that sort of looks like one.

Like this one.. money printed by Russia's first soviet government in 1918. Does that make them some of your goosestepping Nazis too?

Well, he does describe himself as an Israeli Zionist after all...

And that justifies saying he should be gassed? A bit beyond the question of holding Israel to task, if you ask me. The issue isn't Israeli imperialism after all, it is the holocaust. And if in your mind those racist attacks are justified then why do you present him as a credible source? You are the one who posted this.

If these were things said by Ukrainian nationalists you'd be all over it. So it is bad if you're one of them but okay if you are doing it in the interests of ethnic Russians or whatever else you want to call this front operation? And double okay if the person happens to be an Israeli resident?

Of course he's a credible source. Who better? It's very straightforward Smith. He came. He saw. He relates. If you wish to give yourself headaches among the overtones be my guest. There's lots more Nazism in Ukraine for us to discover as we shall see...

I made no such musing Smith. Your vile attributions are your own.

No, you didn't (and I didn't say you did) but when I brought up the attacks your response was a bit of a surprise, as I didn't think there was a good reason for that sort of thing. Rabble Contributor Roger Annis Reports From the War Zone

"I have just returned from participating in a four day reporting tour to the city of Donestk and the countryside that lies between Donetsk and the Russian city of Rostov to the south and east.

For me, perhaps the most important part of the tour was the insight gained into the political aspirations of the leading social and political forces of the movement for political autonomy of the regions.

The most difficult part was seeing the very harsh conditions which people living close to the ceasefire line with Ukraines armed forces are suffering.

I will be writing a series of articles about the visit in the coming days and weeks in Counterpunch. One place where they will all be compiled and easily accessible is on my author page on the website which I help to edit: The New Cold War: Ukraine and beyond.

NEO: US Training Nazis, Western Media Providing Cover  -  by Eric Draitser

It has become a popular position both in the mainstream and pseudoalternative media and among those on the Russophobic left to downplay the signficiant fascist influence on the political and military institutions, as well as on the cultural character of the 'New Ukraine.' Quite often, the reality of Ukrainian fascism is obscured by vague assertions that such conclusions are merely 'Russian propaganda,' that they are simply Kremlin talking points, and not statements of objective reality.

At issue is not whether everyone in Ukraine is a Nazi, as that is an absurd argument that no one is really making. Rather the question has to do with precisely which individuals and factions that are unmistakeably fascist are being supported, directly or indirectly by the US and its allies. More to the point, which of the US-backed Nazi elements are integral to the continued illegal war against the East, and which figure prominently in the future trajectory of the Ukrainian state.

The precarious state of the government in Kiev which tenuously maintains its grip on power is worrying to many around the world - especially in Russia - who rightly fear the possibility of a full blown fascist takeover..."

The US and European outcry over the deaths of these
Ukrainian opposition figures has been, shall we say, muted, and not only in
comparison to the outcry which followed the death of Boris Nemtsov. Today we see
nothing close to the outrage which ensued after the murders of Russian
opposition journalists and activists Paul Klebnikov (2004), Anna Politkovskaya
(2006) and Alexander Litvinenko (2006). The reason for this is not difficult to

Our wondrously pliant Beltway media has, for months
now, ignored the spate of murders and suspicious suicides in Kiev because it
prefers not to report on the illiberal tide that is now sweeping over Kiev.

The lesson policymakers (as well as the many 2016 presidential aspirants)
might take away from the example of post-Yanukovych Ukraine is that overthrowing
democratically-elected governments, however corrupt, is not a promising recipe
for building the kinds of ‘civil societies’ that we are told are in America’s

American journalists and US policymakers might do well to focus more closely
on the full dimensions of what is unfolding in Kiev rather than to continue to
simply parrot the post-Maidan party line.

There was no great outcry over many of the murders and attempted murders by rebel elements and Yanukovich's government either. Most of those have been ignored by the general public. The revelation earlier this month that rebels are executing people without trial has pretty much faded from public interest, just like the admission that they were doing it last summer.

That people do pay attention to a military invasion and knocking planes out of the sky - well that isn't all that surprising.

Cohen: Kiev Deliberately Undermining Minsk2

The Ukrainian leadership is deliberately undermining the Minsk2 agreement, brokered by Germany, France and Russia in February 2015, underscored Stephen Cohen, a prominent American historian and professor of Russian studies at Princeton University and New York University, noting that Kiev can do nothing significant without Washington's backing.

The historian referred to a number of legislative bills signed by Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, who evidently reversed the promises made by Kiev during the Minsk negotiations. Although Poroshenko himself approved the Minsk accord, since then Kiev has acted in contravention to the deal.

Furthermore, several days ago the Ukrainian president announced that 'any concept of federalization or home rule was a poisonous cancer that would destroy Ukraine,' the professor noted.

Remarkably, Kiev's anti-Minsk stance is evidently supported by both Republican and Democratic lawmakers [here too, by all parties] in Washington, the historian emphasized. The professor noted that Washington continues to blame the Kremlin for the Ukrainian crisis..."

'Foreign Troops Stay Out of Ukraine': DPR Leader

"...Poroshenko cannot be unaware that article 10 of Minsk 2 requires the withdrawal of any and all foreign armed groups from the Donbass. Concerning international organisations, the agreement mentions only the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, which is tasked with monitoring execution of the pact.'

'By his pronouncement, Poroshenko actually discredits the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission.'

'Once again, this proves that Ukraine is trying to derail the implementation of the Minsk agreement. Kyiv consistently alleges that the OSCE is unable to carry out the prescribed terms of the agreement,' Pushilin said.

Once again, the DPR calls on the leaders of Germany and France, which together with Russian President Putin were the guarantors of the Package of Measures, to prevent any further provocative moves on the part of Kyiv. Chancellor Merkel and President Hollande have declared they would guarantee that Ukraine would carry out Minsk 2.

Therefore they now have to bring Poroshenko to heel, as by his actions he is ripping up the Minsk agreement,' Pushilin added..."

But the talks with the representatives of the authorities brought no result and the protesters relocated to the government headquarters, blocking the traffic at central Kreschatik Street.

The miners planned to organize nation-wide strikes, if their demands are ignored by the Ukrainian authorities..."

Vaclav Klaus, Ex President of Czech Republic on Ukraine

"...Yes, changes in the geopolitical situation are happening, and in your eyes it is Russia and Putin who are responsible. This is a completely stupid and narrow-minded opinion. It was done by western European countries and USA.

USA and Europe, who purposefully and stupidly wanted a confrontation with Russia and abused Ukraine as a poor, miserable and unhappy tool to realize their own ends.

This game played with the Ukrainian card wasn't Putin's. This was all done by politicians in USA and Western Europe. We warned against this beforehand. We knew it would be a completely terrible scenario. We knew that to set the peoples of Ukraine against each other by organizing 'Maidans' would have terrible consequences.

This was their purpose all along, how to make war in Ukraine and cause all the consequences which we see there now. This is a total disaster and Ukraine is the victim of this process, It's also Ukraine's fault they couldn't manage their transformation process after the fall of communism, neither on the political level nor the economic level.

But of course they had disadvantages in their geopolitical situation. They were riven, divided and partially disintegrated. But there were huge mistakes by Ukrainian politicians.

So, I am 100% sure this disastrous and stupidly played Ukrainian card, by the EU and USA has caused all this crisis and drama, just the same way and by the same powers that played it 20 years ago in Ukraine also. I'm not here to praise Russia, but in this case Russia and Putin are completely innocent and I am 100% sure Putin is most unhappy about how he was forced to respond.

And I am sure that what Mr Putin has done there was a 'forced move' as chessplayers say. This was their purpose all along, how to make war in Ukraine and cause all the consequences which are there now. Putin was hoping for peace and tranquility after the success of the Sochi Olympics, but he was dragged into a situation which is a disaster for Russia, a disaster for Putin and most importantly a huge disaster for Ukrainian peoples who live there, who are the victims, and who do the suffering.

Western Europe and especially USA are playing games with Ukraine. And some blind, improvident people among us seem unable to understand this. So this is the hard, honest truth of the thing and I don't know what more I can say.

Thank you."

Kiev Needs Russian Aggression Myth to Worm Out Western Loans

"The authorities in Kiev should address civilian issues - finance and the economy, but the treasury is empty and debts are many. In its call for urgent financial aid addressed to the international community, the Verkhova Rada blames Russia again and again as the root cause of all Ukrainian misfortunes, although Moscow has nothing to do with them,' Sivkov told Tass.

'Very soon, when part of the Ukrainian army will have to be demobilized, the commander-in-chief, Petro Poroshenko, will be unable to explain to people why so many military have not returned home. For the president it would be more convenient to blame the heavy loss of life on 'Russian aggression,' and not an abortive 'anti-terrorist operation in Donbass,' Sikov said..."

The Lord of Crimea

You could also post an opinion piece by someone else who shares a lot of Vaclav Klaus's political views - Bill O'Reilly - but that wouldn't make any of it accurate or fair.

Interesting again, the role that far right elements in European politics are playing in this issue.

Another far right racist party financed by Putin and invited to the Crimean referendum just won a large portion of the vote in Hungary. Perhaps they will be the next voice of authority to weigh in on Ukraine.

Apparently we're just picking up for different shades of evil is what I’m getting out of these conversations.  Essentially everything being done on one side is supposed to cancel out the schemes of the other, so that we're all supposed to be staring at a big fat zero of an issue.  We're to ignore all the death and destruction, unless we're up for pointing fingers in the proper direction, which is Russia and it's evil ways.  It's a similar argument employed in the Israeli/Palestinian context, ie: there's violence on 'both' sides.  Everything is a wash.  In the Ukrainian situation such a position leaves the global hegemon to surround, secure and gobble up more international commerce, which it claims ownership over globally, and in the occupied Palestinian territories it leaves the regional hegemon alone to gobble up more land.  These are clearly morally bankrupt and scripted attempts at obfuscation, which by default winds up happily supporting the status quo world order.

Nothing so fatalist, relativist or black and white. I'd say a more realistic outlook is to see that there are those who have honest interests and those who are out to manipulate all sides here.

And in this case, it helps to know some of Klaus's background in reading his opinion. Because although he is a critic of the Eurozone and the Americans, most of his political outlook with regard to free market capitalism, environmental issues would make him at home with the American right. As for his positions on homosexuality and far right authoritarianism, he could probably help be a bridge of compromise and cooperation between those far right westerners and Vladimir Putin's vision.

Good news for some, I suppose.

'It is very rich for Poroshenko to be talking about peacekeepers...I am in Donetsk at the moment. If Poroshenko wants to deliver peace, he can stop the shelling and the gunfire which I have experienced today first-hand. If he wants peace, take away the weapons from the frontline and stop attacking the people of the Donbass region.

Porosheko wants more weapons to continue the war: he is not interested in peace. In fact peace for him will be difficult to make because of so many elements within the Ukrainian government - its various extremist groups that do not want peace but want a military solution.

When we talk about 'non-lethal aid', in many cases that can cause deadly effects..There's been the supplying to the Ukrainian armed forces of what is known as non-lethal equipment, but of course that has an effect that allows them to better use artillery. That has a deadly effect. Non lethal equipment being supplied just adds to the lethality of the Ukrainian army, which has killed many people so far, driven millions out of their homes..."

The latest from Peter Lavelle on his flagship show, CrossTalk.

Ukraine’s is a complex and a multilevel tragedy – as the economy continues to collapse, the Kiev leadership is hell-bent on destroying civil liberties and eliminating dissent. All awhile Washington and its European allies remain largely silent. And the lack of credible Western media coverage is part of the problem.

CrossTalking with James Jatras, Mark Sleboda and Domitilla Sagramoso.

The [jackboot] Kiev regime

Mark Sleboda (Int Affairs and Security Analyst): "The United States is literally training fascist militias to bring "democracy" to Ukraine. No joke. These are not the Ukrainian army; the United States, the UK, the Polish military forces [and Canadian!] ... they are NOT training the Ukrainian military. They are training the Ukrainian National Guard Volunteer Batallions, a total of which adds up to about 10,000. Many of these people, as has been repeatedly demonstrated, even in the Western media, even if it hasn't pierced the narrative, many of these are of fascist, ultra-nationalist, and extreme right-wing ideologies. Many of them have been accused by Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International of committing war crimes against civilians in the Donbass."

(regarding the actual "trainers") "The United States has a bad history. It hasn't demonstrated that it teaches professionalism to the soldiers it trains. [Sleboda may be thinking of the brutal and horrific "School of the Americas" that helped Latin and Central American dictatorships torture their domestic populations during the era of neo-liberalism's brutal introduction to the hemisphere.] Instead, in many parts of the world, soldiers that the US military has trained go on to commit war crimes. We've seen this repeatedly in South America, Afghanistan, Iraq - everywhere they've been trained.

The OUN, the UPA and The Holocaust  -  by Per A Rudling

A Study in the Manufacturing of Historical Myths

"As one of his final acts in office, Yushchenko officially designated Stepan Bandera as a Hero of Ukraine, in a polarized and much criticized move. The Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC), of which both OUN wings and veteran organizations of the UPA and the Waffen SS Galizien are members, enthusiasticaly endorsed Yushchenko's decree.

On Remembrance Day, a day which in Canada traditionally emphasizes the role of military men in the fight against fascism, the UCC saluted the OUN, the UPA and the Ukrainian veterans of the Waffen SS Galizien.

Abandoned as policy following Yushchenko's disastrous defeat, the narrative of denial and myth making around the OUN-UPA is now mostly the preserve of the extreme right in the diaspora and Ukraine proper. Yanukovych has continued Yushchenko's legacy of playing the eastern and western parts of Ukraine against each other..."

Forest Fires Heading For Chernobyl Nuclear Plant - Ukraine Interior Ministry (and vid)

"Police and National Guard units on high alert. Biggest fire since 1992..

'The potential danger in this fire comes from the radioactive contaminants the burning plants have absorbed,' ecologist Christopher Busby told RT.

In other words, they land on the ground in 1986 and they get absorbed into the trees and all the biosphere. And when it burns, they just become re-suspended.

It's like Chernobyl all over again. All of that material that fell on the ground, will now be burned up into the air and will become available for people to breathe.."

The Western media has created a fictional account of events in Ukraine. The coup organized by the Obama regime that overthrew the elected democratic government in Ukraine is never mentioned. The militias decked out in Nazi symbols are ignored. These militias are the principle source of the violence that has been inflicted on the Russian populations, resulting in the formation of the break-away republics. Instead of reporting this fact, the corrupt Western media delivers Washington’s propaganda that Russia has invaded and is annexing eastern and southern Ukraine. British and European politicians parrot Washington’s lies.

The Western media is complicit in many war crimes covered up with lies, but the false story that the Western media has woven of Ukraine is the most audacious collection of lies yet. Truly, truth in the Western world has been murdered. There is no respect for truth in any Western capital.

The coup in Ukraine is Washington’s effort to thrust a dagger into Russia’s heart. The recklessness of such a criminal act has been covered up by constructing a false reality of a people’s revolution against a corrupt and oppressive government. The world should be stunned that “bringing democracy” has become Washington’s cover for resurrecting a Nazi state.

The truth has been "murdered" in Ukraine.

That is kind of funny. Name-drop the OSCE in order to lend some validity, in the same article paint them as tools of the west:

A careful reading of the text will reveal that the OSCE - (which is by and large a European dominated body which often performs extensive damage control for the Kiev Junta, and has been accused by DPR leadership and commanders of performing intel gathering work for the Kiev Junta and the US) - can no longer conceal the breaches of the ceasefire part of the Minsk II Agreement

And then don't cite anything in the actual report to back up the claim about this alleged plan for a "massive series of incursions".

Might be easier to just get the information straight from the source:

It's kinds like the state in Marxist theory, Smith. A mixed bag or domain of conflict. Try to keep up. There's a clever fella.
