Just a general thread.

Apologize if this should have gone in Elections 2015.

42 may be the answer, but what is the question, Mr. Smarty Pants?

Caissa

Can a moderator please move this to the the Elections 2015 forum. Shame on you Unionist. Tongue out

NDPP

As should now be obvious to all, there's not much interest here in the world. Only NDP world...

Mr. Magoo

The world doesn't need us to weigh in on their affairs.  The people of the world will work this out on their own.

6 x 8

ETA. Unionist has been banned for using all-caps in the headline. Apologies to all of those who enjoyed his antics over the years.

Unionist

6 x 8??? Oh, I get it, $48M ransom to lift the ban? All right, all right, done. Quite the little sideline you've got going here, Catchfire!

Looks like my memory failed me a bit. But you get the idea. Here is the source text:

“Ford,” he said suddenly, “look, if that Question is printed in my brain wave patterns but I’m not consciously aware of it it must be somewhere in my unconscious.”

“Yes, I suppose so.”

“There might be a way of bringing that unconscious pattern forward.”

“Oh yes?”

“Yes, by introducing some random element that can be shaped by that pattern.”

“Like how?”

“Like by pulling Scrabble letters out of a bag blindfolded.”

Ford leapt to his feet.

“Brilliant!” he said. He tugged his towel out of his satchel and with a few deft knots transformed it into a bag.

“Totally mad,” he said, “utter nonsense. But we’ll do it because it’s brilliant nonsense. Come on, come on.”

The sun passed respectfully behind a cloud. A few small sad raindrops fell.

They piled together all the remaining letters and dropped them into the bag.

They shook them up.

“Right,” said Ford, “close your eyes. Pull them out. Come on come on, come on.”

Arthur closed his eyes and plunged his hand into the towelful of stones. He jiggled them about, pulled out four and handed them to Ford. Ford laid them along the ground in the order he got them.

“W,” said Ford, “H, A, T ... What!”

He blinked.

“I think it’s working!” he said.

Arthur pushed three more at him.

“D, O, Y ... Doy. Oh perhaps it isn’t working,” said Ford.

“Here’s the next three.” “O, U, G ... Doyoug ... It’s not making sense I’m afraid.”

Arthur pulled another two from the bag.

Ford put them in place. “E, T, doyouget ... Do you get!” shouted Ford, “it is working! This is amazing, it really is working!”

“More here.” Arthur was throwing them out feverishly as fast as he could go.

“I, F,” said Ford, “Y, O, U, ... M, U, L, T, I, P, L, Y, ... What do you get if you multiply, ... S, I, X, ... six, B, Y, by, six by ... what do you get if you multiply six by ... N, I, N, E, ... six by nine ...”

He paused. “Come on, where’s the next one?”

“Er, that’s the lot,” said Arthur, “that’s all there were.”

He sat back, nonplussed. He rooted around again in the knotted up towel but there were no more letters.

“You mean that’s it?” said Ford.

“That’s it.”

“Six by nine. Forty-two.”

“That’s it. That’s all there is.”

ETA. Unionist, I see you are not yet banned. Let me see if I can help: simply try your best to post -- and miss.

But he'll still take the $48Million...Smile

Unionist

If you knew how much I love Hitchhiker's Guide... the BBC radio version, not the TV one. Our kids were raised listening to those episodes. And Douglas Adams was taken from us unfairly, infuriatingly, way too young.

Raising a glass to the Bugblatter Beast of Traal!!

Pope Calls on World Youth to Rise Up Against Global Capitalism

The latest call for a youth uprising against global capitalism came not from grassroots groups, but from the leader of the Catholic Church, who on Sunday gave a rousing speech during which he told a crowd of young people in Paraguay that it is their time to "make a mess."

The address marked the end of Pope Francis' week-long pilgrimage to Latin America, during which he also assailed the prevailing economic system as the "dung of the devil," saying that the systemic "greed for money" is a "subtle dictatorship" that "condemns and enslaves men and women."

During Sunday's rally, which was held on the banks of the Paraguay River outside the capital Asunción, the Argentinian pontiff went off-script as he addressed tens of thousands of local youth.

"They wrote a speech for me to give you. But speeches are boring," Pope Francis said. "Make a mess, but then also help to tidy it up. A mess which gives us a free heart, a mess which gives us solidarity, a mess which gives us hope."....

Here's a large picture of The World, in case anyone isn't clear what we're talking about.

Mr. Magoo

I don't see Paraguay.

It's a little Eurocentric there Jas. Someone get the mob together, tar and feathers only, no pitchforks, we want a kinder, gentler mob.

Unionist

Very one-sided view.
