From Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East:

Sunday, April 22, the famous CBS television show "60 Minutes" broadcast a 14-minute segment on how the Israeli occupation has caused massive numbers of Palestinian Christians to flee Palestine. CBS is coming under intense pressure: from 29,000 complaints from pro-Israel groups; and from the Israeli ambassador, who called the head of CBS News (11 minutes into the special.) Please help us counter the pressure on CBS News, to embolden them to continue to report factually about the Middle East.

Please click here to send an email to CBS News and "60 Minutes" in support of their reporting.

While the "60 Minutes" segment on Palestinian Christians does have its weaknesses, it helps to illuminate key truths about the situation in Israel/Palestine. The documentary can be viewed here and additional commentary on the issue from Aljazeera journalist Ben White can be found [url= "60 Minutes" has been a strong example of principled journalism for decades. It is important that this program does not cave in to pressure from the pro-Israel lobby in North America.

I did so as per the above instructions.

No, 60 Minutes must pass the purity test before I support this. ;)

New Defence Attache Eager to Build Bridges

"Another layer has been added to the ever-deepening bilateral relationship between Canada and Israel. Last December, Israel quietly named Brig-Gen (Res) Eden Attias as its first Ministry of Defence attache to Ottawa. Prior to that, Israel's only defence attache in North America was stationed in Washington DC.

Given the deepening ties and friendship between Canada and Israel, the moment was right for his new post to be created, Attias said. 'Due to the flourishing relationship between Canada and Israel, one of the recent discussions between our defence ministries involved looking for ways to get more people on the ground in each country.

We have a lot of things we're sharing,' he said.

Attias said he's paving the way for his successors and hopes to open many doors for Israel with Canada's military industries and to connect Canadian firms to opportunities in Israel. From a community standpoint, he said as an Israeli Jew, he's slowly learning just how much the Canadian Jewish community supports Israel..."

World Jewish Congress President Meets Harper in Ottawa

"The president of the World Jewish Congress (WJC) met with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa this week to discuss rising global levels of antisemitism and anti-Zionism and to suggest ways to continue pressuring Iran..

Ronald Lauder was in Ottawa on May 16 on a visit to Parliament Hill hosted by members of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA). He also lunched with Foreign Minister John Baird. Lauder has met with Harper before, hosting the prime minister at his New York home last fall as part of the WJC's acknowledgement of Canada's support for Israel and other Jewish causes, he said.

Speaking to the CJN from Ottawa, Lauder, an American businessman and philanthropist - listed by Forbes in 2011 as one of the richest people in the world, with an estimated net worth of $3.3 Billion - said he was in Canada because of Harper's strong support of Israel and to 'formalize' relations between WJC and CIJA.

As to his dealings with CIJA - which replaced the now defunct Canadian Jewish Congress, the WJC's longtime Canadian affiliate - Lauder said the Canadian Jewish community is'strong and very self-sufficient'. Shimon Fogel, CIJA's CEO said his organization wants to solidify its relationship with the WJC because the world body's 'extensive network' has a lot to offer Canadian Jews.

He said the World Jewish Congress also recently started giving money and resources to the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs for its advocacy work in Canada and abroad. Fogel wouldn't reveal how much assistance the WJC has given CIJA, but said it's been enough to start planning more trips to Israel for MPs and senators and to promote CIJA's anti-boycott movement, for example.

Lauder confirmed that the WJC and CIJA are working on joint initiatives regarding anti-semitism and anti-Zionism. 'We have interesting plans but we're not yet ready to discuss them..."

'We have interesting plans but we're not yet ready to discuss them..."

Boy,oh boy do I want to know what these 'interesting plans'

If they're not ready to discuss them, they must be hardcore.

I'm sure they will proceed effortlessly. Most Canadians seem not to care about our increasing ties to Israel nor the activities of their fifth column in furtherance.

Most Canadians don't seem to give a rat's ass about anything our Dear Leader does..Frown

Quebec and Israel: A Convergence?

"A refreshing new autobiorgraphy by a Quebecois convert to Judaism demonstrates can be a nationalist minority searching for self-identity and working for political independence -- in this case, the independence of Quebec from Canada - and simultaneously, be a passionate Zionist. You can admire the struggle of Israel and the Jewish people and adopt it as a role model for your own battles. Israel can ideed be a light unto the nations..."

How someone can admire an Apartheid state is beyond my comprehension, regardless of one's identity.

'A light unto the nations'...Excuse me while I puke.

Countering the Israel Lobby's Dominance: Can Jewish liberals transcend the Wiesel Doctrine?  -  by Alan Nasser's dominance/

"...A 2009 survey reported in the Israeli newspaper Yediot Ah'ronet found that 40 percent of Jewish Israelis would deny the vote to Arab Israelis. More recent surveys found 56 percent of Jewish Israeli high school students sharing this sentiment. A survey conducted by Professor Camil Fuchs from the Statistics Department of Tel Aviv University found that half of Israeli teens don't want Arab students in their class.

Most Israeli teens aged 15 to 18 don't think Arabs enjoy equal rights in Israel, and most of these don't think Arabs deserve equal rights. The survey also revealed that 96 percent of the respondents want Israel to be a Jewish and democratic state, but 27 percent believe those who object should be tried in court, and 41 percent support stripping them of their citizenship.

In answer to a question whether they would be willing to learn in a classroom with one or more students with special needs, 32 percent answered in the negative. When the question was asked regarding Arab students, 50 percent of respondents answered in the negative. In addition, 23 percent said that they wouldn't want gays or lebians in their class..."

Falling in Love - by Julie Holm

"I sometimes feel embarrassed, trying to explain why I love Palestine; how can you love living in a place where human rights are violated every day and where no one is free? The answer is simple; I am in love with the Palestinian people. I have never met anyone as friendly, kind and welcoming as the Palestinians. Ironically, I have never met anyone as unwelcoming as the Israelis.."

"The award of a philosophy prize to the pro-Palestinian Jewish-American philosopher Judith Butler has angered a number of groups in Germany and Israel.

The city of Frankfurt awarded Butler the Theodor Adorno Prize for her work in philosophy which made her "one of the key thinkers of our time."

“Someone who boycotts Israel can’t be an Adorno prize winner,” a German scholars' groups was quoted as saying by the Jewish Chronicle Newspaper.

The Central Council of Jews in Germany also criticised the decision, referring to Butler as "morally corrupt” and "confessing to be an Israel-hater," according to Spiegel Online."

An author whose outspoken criticism of Israel's occupation of the Palestinian West Bank got him banned from a Jewish book festival in Atlanta spoke Wednesday night at a sold-out event at an alternate location.

"This experience has taught me I should be boycotted more often," Peter Beinart quipped to a packed room, thanking those in attendance for the hospitality he had been shown since arriving in the southern city.

Beinart was originally one of 52 writers invited to speak at this week's Book Festival of the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta, which attracts about 10,000 people each year. Bowing to pressure from some local Jews offend by Beinart's views, festival organizers then canceled his scheduled appearance — sparking a backlash to the backlash.

Guest Editorial - 'Tarek Fatah: Stop Being Jewish and Become Good Communists,'   -   By Gary McHale

"...I would like to address four key issues: First, are Republicans (conservatives) who support Jewish people and Israel a group of 'Nazis' (Mr Fatah's words, not mine)? Second, is it a good idea to attack the people who support you? Third, is Communism the way of the world, and should we all get on board? Fourth, must Jews stop being Jewish and become good communists in order to get the world to support them?...

Mr Fatah stated: 'You better get inside the Democratic Party and the NDP. Don't deceive yourselves - you lost out on the NDP that was the biggest supporter of the state of Israel in the Jewish community..."

Gaza Flotilla Massacre Whitewash Absolves Israel  -  by Stephen Lendman

Brig-Gen Eden Attias, former commander of IAFB Nevatin, now Israeli Military Attache to Canada, (Res) was named by Turkish intelligence for his 'command and control' involvement in the Mavi Marmara massacre. Unfortunately there appear to be no repercussions of any of this on his new job in 'Israel's best friend', Canada.

CIJA Board Visit Reported in JPost

"...Among the many well known persons who were in the Jerusalem audience to listen to Rabbi Sacks of England this week, was World Mizrachi President Kurt Rothschild, who made aliya with his wife Edith, a year ago. Rothschild, who was long regarded as the elder statesman of the Canadian Jewish community, is a generous philanthropist who sits on the boards Bar-Ilan University, Yeshiva Federation and has been active in the field of Jewish education in Canada, the US and Israel.

He has also been involved with the establishment of religious settlements in the Negev. The CIJA board at its opening dinner, paid tribute to the Rothschilds for their many decades of community service and philanthropic leadership. Speakers throughout the evening were effusive in their praise of Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his government's staunch and principled support for Israel."

Ontario’s government has denied permission to hold a pro-Palestinian,  anti-Israel rally on the grounds of the provincial legislature in Toronto.

The legislature’s sergeant-at-arms denied the permit request for the July 17  or July 18 rally on the grounds of the legislative buildings, known as Queen’s  Park, the Canadian Jewish News reported, citing a statement issued on Wednesday  by B’nai Brith Canada.

A B’nai Brith Canada petition calling on the legislature to deny the request  garnered 3,000 signatures.

In a letter to a Toronto legislator saying no permit would be issued, the  sergeant-at-arms cited the city’s impending Pan Am Games and Parapan Games as  the reasons, according to the Canadian Jewish News.

“Although the Sergeant-at-Arms’ decision this year is tied to considerations  regarding the Pan Am and Parapan American Games in Toronto, he must go further  and take this opportunity to declare that permits for divisive hate-rallies will  no longer be issued in the future,” B’nai Brith Canada said in a statement.
