On the heels of a settlement reached by Service Employees International Union and Unite Here to end a bitter 18-month dispute over a separation between Workers United/SEIU and Unite Here, a settlement has been negotiated in Ontario following hours of intense around the clock negotiations...
The terms of settlement mean that:
Workers United will retain all of its apparel, manufacturing, distribution and social service units in Ontario while UNITE HERE will retain all its hotels units in Toronto and Ottawa
UNITE HERE will have exclusive organizing jurisdiction in the Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa for hotels but both parties will have equal jurisdiction anywhere else.
Workers United will retain its non-gaming units in Niagara Region and Windsor Region including hotels and social clubs
UNITE HERE will represent the food service units at University of Toronto and York University
Workers United will represent all other food services units with the exception of the Rogers Centre which will be arbitrated.
