Dick Cheney Cancels Toronto Trip, Says Canada is Too Dangerous

http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/03/12/dick-cheney-cancels-toronto-trip...

"Former US Vice President Dick Cheney has cancelled an April appearance in Toronto citing concerns Canada is too dangerous. 'He felt that in Canada the risk of violent protest was simply too high' said Ryan Ruppert, president of promotions company Spectre Live Corp, which had booked Mr Cheney for an April 24 appearance at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre..."

Bravo to the hardcore Vancouver activists for giving this DICK a good rough ride. Because I attend every one of the protests of these US war criminals' appearances in Toronto, I can testify that Mr Cheney would likely have had nothing to fear. The protest attendance here in TO for Bush or Clinton appearances has been dismal - the last time less than a dozen people showed up...

I tell ya, what's this world coming to when an international rock star war criminal can't do a big ticket speaking engagement in this country.

troublesome_thomas

Poor Dick Cheney. Listening to all those mean protesters calling him a war criminal must be absolute ........ <drumroll please> ........ torture!

Slumberjack

I'm not buying pressure from activists as the explanation here.  This is Dick fucking Cheney after all.  Maybe it's something to do with those laws we have against shooting people in the face.

NDPP

It should be because of the actual law in Canada that says that 'a credibly suspected' person accused of war crimes must be held accountable. It isn't - because neither the government nor opposition will do anything to ensure this, unless the culprit is an African.

I agree with SJ. This seems like just a neat chance to insult Canada and scaremonger about activists in general. I highly doubt that the Vancouver activist community could be credited with actually striking enough fear in Cheney's heart to make him doubt his safety.

From the OP link:

"God forbid there was ever an emergency," said Ruppert, noting Cheney's history of heart problems.

LMFAO. This would be funny if it wasn't so fucking pathetic. Ooh the big man is afraid of activists. He should have a Big Tough Guy meeting with Doug Ford. They can cry into their beers. Fuckwad.

Quote:

Ticket holders can either bring in their tickets for a refund, or go to a replacement talk by author Mark Steyn.

Now THAT'S scary.

Surprised

See? Activist violence works!

janfromthebruce

perhaps the reason Dick decided not to come is that ticket sells were low and he didn't want the image of a fading warhorse. And so instead of beng truthful (surprise) he said it was because of protestors.

HE'S BACK!

Will Dick Cheney Be Arrested For War Crimes and Torture When he Goes to Canada?

Pass it on to all interested persons, groups and parties!

Dick Cheney is too dangerous for Canada. After killing hundreds of thousands in Afghanistan and Iraq, he even shot a friend while supposedly hunting. Imagine what he would do to a crowd of angry Canadian protesters.

Dick Cheney Calls For War on Iran

http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/266-32/20128-dick-cheney-calls-f...

"Let's go make war on Iran,' said Republican Dick Cheney in somewhat different words on one of those silly Sunday shows Oct. 26th.

This wasn't the first time Cheney had avocated for war on Iran. Or for torture. Or for assassination by drone. Or for any other war crime for which he is unlikely ever to be held accountable..."

Even though Canadian law calls for this according to Lawyers Against War (LAW)

The Malign Dick Cheney is Visiting Toronto: Mallick

"Should former US vice president Dick Cheney, a man who has made this world immeasurably more awful, be allowed to cross into Canada?"

...a country which has itself aided and abetted the same - and continues to do so?

I agree. I think the simple explanation is that he can't very well be seen to shake hands with the Mayor right now. The optics are horrific.
