Digital "locks" on computing devices now have legal protection in the U.S., the EU and in Canada (thanks to Harper). The only way for corporations to make sure that you can't break the locks is by installing spyware everywhere.
This means that your computing device, whether it's a traditional desktop/laptop, tablet, smartphone etc. will obey someone else instead of you.
