Daily News & Analysis reports this hour, “Noted social worker Medha Patkar was detained on Sunday for protesting against land acquisition for the Pench water diversion project, the police said. She was detained at the railway station when she insisted on proceeding to the venue of the protest, being organised by the Kisan Sangharsh Samiti (KSS). Meanwhile, KSS activists began a satyagraha protesting against land acquisition for the project. …Yesterday, KSS leader advocate Aradhana Bhargava was also arrested by the police in view of the protest.”

A National Alliance of People’s Movements media release explains, “The Pench Water Diversion Project involves construction of a 51 meter dam on Pench river, submerging 5600 Hectares of land of 31 villages. …PWDP today is to be constructed for supplying water to the Adani Pench Power Project (APPP), diverting water meant for the farmers.”
