The Council of Canadians and the Canadian Youth Delegation are holding a silent protest at this moment outside the Moon Palace, where the climate talks are in their final day, in defence of a second commitment period for the Kyoto Protocol.

More than thirty media (still and video) cameras from around the world (not to mention palace security) are recording the moment.

The activists are holding pictures sent by concerned people across Canada holding lit candles, as well as pictures of a candle with Kyoto written on it. Security would not allow us to hold lit candles at this protest.

To see pictures of more than 100 people holding candles of hope for Kyoto, please go to http://www.canadians.org/action/2010/hopeforkyoto.html.

These photos are also being sent today – one at a time – to environment minister John Baird. The groups are demanding that the Harper government drop its stubborn refusal to commit to the Kyoto Protocol.
