Special Chiefs Assembly scheduled for Nov. 24, 2010, to be held at the Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre, 525 Bay Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

Please bring your drums!

This will be a demonstration that will bring a message to be hand delivered to Grand Chief of Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Stan Beardy to bring to Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Chief Shawn Atleo.

This message to be delivered on behalf of Missing and Murdered Native women in Canada and their families to AFN Chief Shawn Atleo is:

It’s unacceptable there are currently 600+ Missing and Murdered Native Women in this country and our Chiefs idly stand by and allow the Harper government to misappropriate proper funding dollars and cut programs such as the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) Sisters in Spirit (SIS) program.

Canada’s justice ministers has admitted the disappearance of some of the country’s most vulnerable women has been widespread for decades and hasn’t received the attention it deserves.

Therefore we support NWAC in their call for a immediate restoration of Sisters in Spirit funding and the establishment of an independent, public commission of inquiry into the missing and murdered native women in Canada.

There can be no deal-making, settling, or backroom political deals, and that it is the responsibility of (AFN) Chief Shawn Atleo to do what is necessary to ensure the well-being of the first nations people they represent.

Missing and Murdered Indigenous women in Canada should be a national priority.
