Supporting rabble.ca is a small price to pay for strengthening independent media.

Plus, give to rabble’s annual donation drive and win an iPad!

Dear readers and contributors:

rabble.ca is movement media. From breaking G20 coverage, to bringing you live events, to exclusive interviews, to local election coverage, to providing news and views for the rest of us, rabble.ca is a go-to place for news that matters. But we can’t do it alone. We depend on your help — for the cost of two coffees a month, you can make a real difference in our ability to survive and even thrive.

You can support us right now at rabble.ca/donate

No one likes to ask for money, but we believe that community donations are a small price to pay to keep our important alternative media site alive.

It’s a small price to pay for reading leading Canadian writers.
It’s a small price to pay for hearing unique Canadian podcasts.
It’s a small price to pay for watching live event coverage.
It’s a small price to pay for connecting people and communities.

Plus, if you donate a minimum of $25 you’ll be entered into a draw to win an iPad and other prizes.

Every year we get better, and this last year was no exception. We had more exclusive stories, including breaking the news on Minister Jason Kenney’s role in banning George Galloway; exclusive interviews with Canadian Gaza boat survivor Kevin Neish; and recently we were the first to feature an exclusive interview with former Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in years, along with other exclusives from the Copenhagen, Cochabamba and Cancun climate conferences to our Olympics coverage and much more.

No mainstream media covered the G20 Shout Out for Global Justice, but rabble was there, live-streaming the speakers to thousands. rabble.ca also reported from the People’s Summit, both from the streets and from inside the summit’s official press rooms. And while the G20 may have left town, the issues haven’t. rabble’s section on the G20 keeps growing, including our recent live-blogging from the public hearings on G20 policing.

While other media drop local coverage, we say “all politics are local” and launched a locally focused election section. rabble visitors can also find special sections on a wide range of topics including labour, the environment, Indigenous issues and many more

As a movement media site, we not only seek out and tell the stories of community movements in Canada and beyond, but we work to bring people together through a moderated discussion board, video chat room, community calendar and of course our sponsorship of events and gatherings.

rabble.ca needs your support to do this work. Every bit you can donate counts. Anyone who donates at least $25 will be entered into a draw to win one of the following thank-you prizes:

1.    An iPad (loaded with rabble’s iPad/iPhone app!)
2.    One of two collections of Canadian indie music CDS from artists feature in Indie Inside
3.    One of three signed copies of Lawrence Hill’s Any Known Blood

Everyone who donates, regardless of the amount, will be listed on a special thank-you page as someone who supports independent media.  Also please note that rabble.ca doesn’t sell or trade names/addresses.

Please don’t put your donation off — you can donate right now at rabble.ca/donate or with the enclosed form.

Our budget is small (honestly it’s tiny), and we think no media organization does a better job of making every dollar count. Our annual reports give you the rundown of how we spend our pennies. rabble.ca is a non-profit organization but does not receive major foundation support and we do not get government funds.

Still, we were a finalist this year for Best Online-only Publication and Best News Site at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards. We may have the little budget that could, but we also need more support.

More than a hundred thousand people visit rabble every month. Only a few hundred contribute. We must increase those numbers. If you already contribute, thank you. Please consider increasing your support. If you have let your support lapse, or have not previously  contributed, now is the perfect time to make a difference. Don’t delay, please donate.

For just a few dollars, you will be an important part of strengthening independent media in Canada, and you can win great prizes. It’s a small price to pay.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely, rabble’s resident anarchist and fellow staff
