For those of you who have not been following Adam Nobody’s case, Adam Nobody was the G20 summit demonstrator who was beaten by the Toronto Police (this act caught on tape). He alleged he was beaten twice during the G20 summit demonstration on June 26, 2010; once during his arrest by Constable Andalib-Goortani and allegedly again as he was held in custody by two plain clothes officers.

Toronto’s Special Investigative Unit (SIU) eventually investigated the actions of Constable Andalib-Goortani, Detective Constable Todd Storey and Detective Constable Luke Watson.

Constable Babek Andalib-Goortani (who was not wearing his mandatory police identification at the time) had been charged on December 23, 2010 with assault with a weapon against Adam Nobody. He is scheduled to appear in court on January 24, 2010.

On Monday July 18, 2011, the SUI announced that it will not be laying any further charges in Adam Nobody’s case — the case had remained open after Constable Babek Andalib-Goortani was charged to look into the conduct of other officers during his arrest. The case is now considered closed.

While the SIU interviewed a total of 17 officers and four supervisory officers, who were present during Adam Nobody’s arrest, SIU director Ian Scott said none of the interviewees could identify the officers in question. Therefore, the SIU could not find reasonable grounds to charge any other Toronto police officer in the incident.

I would to thank everyone for their patience as I have had to take some time off due to a family emergency. I’m getting back into the swing of things now. Thanks. Miigwetch.
