Two Important Indigenous Events this Weekend in Toronto

Hey all, heard about these two important Indigenous events happening this weekend in Toronto and I thought I would share them with you:

1) Speak for Tears: A Vigil for Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Men, and Children.

Saturday November 29, 2014

6:00 pm

Dufferin Grove Park

Toronto, On

**Drummers and Singers are welcome to join in at the Sacred Fire.

Indigenous communities are under attack so there will be a candle light vigil — for as many lives lost there are stars in the night sky — show that this injustice has to stop. No one should have to live under the fear that they may be the next victim of violence. #AmINext #MMIW #IdleNoMore

2) Toronto Rally in Solidarity with Burnaby Mountain Land Defence

Sunday November 30, 2014

2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Yonge – Dundas Square

Toronto, ON

**Drummers and singers are welcome

**Organizers request that black clothes be worn and bring a black garbage back to represent oil spills.

The Call Out:

Join us in Toronto as we stand in solidarity with those who are defending the land out in so-called British Columbia on Burnaby Mountain, unceded Coast Salish Land.

We will meet this Sunday, 2PM at Dundas Square, as we stand in solidarity with the Musqueam, Tseil-Watuth, Squamish, Tahltan and the Residents of Burnaby who are currently blocking the Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain tarsands pipeline in Burnaby Mountain Conservation Park.

An International call to action has come from land defenders on the Mountain and Toronto must answer.

RCMP and Police have arrested 73 people and even detained children since the court ordered injunction to remove protestors went into effect earlier this week.

Clashes between Police and protestors have been intensifying, while the Mayor of Burnaby went on record to support the protestors saying “This is going to be war.”

The proposed pipeline will allow for a drastic increase in tar sands oil production, making it impossible for Canada to keep up with its own emissions targets, and further polluting the traditional hunting territories of Indigenous communities downstream from the tar sands and along the pipeline route.

In Ontario, we are preparing to stand up against the Energy East tar sands pipeline. We are also still opposing Enbridge’s Line 9. When the people of Turtle Island stand together from coast to coast to coast, we can find our ultimate strength that is desperately needed in this dark time.
