Last night I was watching Jack facing a lot of hard questions on the National. He was very good, not only eloquent, but convincing. This guy is good at that. According to lots of public and private polls, Jack is making a difference as he is swinging votes towards the NDP.

For sure, the Liberal meltdown is helping a lot. What a ridiculous campaign and what a ridiculous leader! In a way, I am much angrier with the Liberal establishment than with pathetic Dion. Because remember, he got in only because this Conservative establishment did not want Bob Rae, when they saw that their favourite, Ignatieff, was not going to get the ticket. Indeed, looking back at the last 15 years when the Liberal leadership, that establishment made sure that every single important policy was loyal to the religion of neoliberalism, including renouncing their promises to scrap NAFTA and the GST, slashing EI and pushing the poorest communities down the ladder.

This is a Party that has managed Canada for and within capitalism for most of the past 100 years, accepting its twists and turns. This is the Party that went into a crusade (as Bush would say) against Quebec nationalism and it is now failing them.

But now the carpet is lifted out from under their feet, by Stephen. They are not going to come back rapidly … Unless Stephen makes a series of big mistakes.

So here is chance for the NDP. But don’t forget the ‘missing link’: Jack is not able to become a national leader because over 20% of the population don’t even see him. He is locked out of Quebec except for a few pockets here and there. He is doomed in that way and his victory might give the country to Harper for a very long time. Can it change? I believe it depends a lot of left-wing activist movements in English Canada. The time has arrived for a ‘big bang.’ Can you do it?
