“There are three years before the next election, though the Conservatives act as though we are in a permanent campaign. They allow scant space for sober and dispassionate dialogue on policy options. The present-day Conservative approach is all-attack, all the time.” ~Karl Nerenberg

Now is a crucial time to have eyes and ears on Parliament, reporting to you on the right-wing agenda Harper and company are pushing onto Canadians. We need your support to keep Karl Nerenberg, rabble’s award-winning reporter, on the Parliament beat.  Can you donate $10, $25, $50, $200 right now to make it happen? We get hundreds of thousands of visitors a month and if just 60 pledge $50 we will reach our goal.

Thank you to everyone who has already supported our special “Keep Karl on Parl” fundraising drive! However we are still $3,000 short of our goal, the drive ends this Friday, and we really need your support. Every bit helps (really).

Parliament kicked off on September 17 and Karl was there. He warned that we should expect the Conservatives to keep force-feeding their radical agenda through Parliament. Karl observed that “We are now in year two of the current Conservative mandate and we can expect the governing party to act with an increased sense of urgency.” Karl has also recently written on the environment, equality and the permanent election campaign, a piece specifically on the political struggles around climate change, on the tainted beef crisis and an article on prodding a passive government into caring about the health of Canadians where he observed that “many worry that the current federal government will seek to undermine the broad principles of the [Health Care] Act in a myriad of ways that may not be immediately obvious.”

This is important stuff and Karl is an important voice in the media. As Marc Raboy, Beaverbrook Chair in Ethics, Media and Communications at McGill University, said, “Karl Nerenberg’s ‘Hill Dispatches’ are rich with the historical depth that the mainstream media should but are unable to provide. They also exhibit a quality that is all too rare in Ottawa: genuine empathy for the challenges faced by ordinary people.”

Let’s keep Karl on Parl. With your support we can do it.
