Are you a Canadian news enthusiast who knows the keyboard is more powerful than the sword? Do you understand the power of media in making political and social change, and do you want to do something about the need for powerful alternative progressive media voices in Canada? If this sounds like you, read on.

rabble.ca, one of Canada's leading progressive media sources, seeks an editor to tend, coordinate, grow and promote the organization's dynamic opinions sections on a daily basis, as part of a busy online news organization.

The position

The Opinions Editor is a senior editorial role at rabble.ca, and at 20-24 hours per week, is a daily presence in the news organization.

The Opinions Editor will value timely and clear communication, is organized and is an excellent text editor, with senior digital news media, editing and promotion experience.

The Opinions Editor is a Canadian news buff who thrives on keeping up with and engaging in discussion of mainstream media, in addition to the alternative press. While developing an understanding of rabble's positioning in the media landscape, the Opinions Editor is aware of the critical importance of media democracy, and the power and possibilities of independent media in the face of the changing landscape of news production and dissemination.

Broadly, the Opinions Editor deploys rabble.ca's editorial vision and strategies, managing the opinions sections of the website: our host of committed columnists, active bloggers and weekly guest opinion pieces.

Daily, the Opinions Editor updates rabble's editorial calendar with planned columns, edits, publishes and promotes blogs, reviews and responds to the editor email for opinion pitches on breaking news and coverage priorities.

Could this be you, or maybe somebody you know? See here for the full job posting and how to apply! The deadline is November 1

We look forward to your applications!

Thank you for reading this story…

More people are reading rabble.ca than ever and unlike many news organizations, we have never put up a paywall – at rabble we’ve always believed in making our reporting and analysis free to all, while striving to make it sustainable as well. Media isn’t free to produce. rabble’s total budget is likely less than what big corporate media spend on photocopying (we kid you not!) and we do not have any major foundation, sponsor or angel investor. Our main supporters are people and organizations -- like you. This is why we need your help. You are what keep us sustainable.

rabble.ca has staked its existence on you. We live or die on community support -- your support! We get hundreds of thousands of visitors and we believe in them. We believe in you. We believe people will put in what they can for the greater good. We call that sustainable.

So what is the easy answer for us? Depend on a community of visitors who care passionately about media that amplifies the voices of people struggling for change and justice. It really is that simple. When the people who visit rabble care enough to contribute a bit then it works for everyone.

And so we’re asking you if you could make a donation, right now, to help us carry forward on our mission. Make a donation today.
