I'm brattier than that. However, the only person who calls me that is a married woman who can call me anything she likes anyway. So my brattiness is sort of a ...secret. < bratty snicker >

Not really, but "the heart is deceitful above all things". You wouldn't like it.

"Trying to survive being" is reasonably accurate.

I was raised in the tiny town of Gambier, Ohio, home of Kenyon College. That's North and East of you a bit - near the 'thriving metropolis' of Mount Vernon. If you haven't been to see Gambier, it's worth a trip up there. It's like something out of Tom Sawyer - an idylic paradise for small children.

I was very open & 'soft', when I lived there.
I became steel and glass later, through running amok in urban wastelands. I remember open & soft though. It was pleasant.

beibhnn is an indentured peon who roams the country (and sometimes other countries) looking for a nice place to live and play with organized labour or human rights organizations. for no discernible reason, she misses alberta.

one day she would like to see her csis file, but mostly just to see if they photographed her better side. she wishes that so many of her friends hadn't sold out and wonder if they think the same thing about her.

she is the aunt of the cutest, hairiest baby who looks suspiciously like a pouting mini mandarin emperor except when he giggles (the secret is to tickle him behind his knee)

Whoa.  How did you find this thread?  It's three years old!  Do we have our archives back??  Or maybe this forum had so few threads that they just moved them all over in November?

Unionist

Just go to TAT[/colo..., then click on "last >>" at the bottom, and you'll find some random threads from 2004 and 2005. Then click on the second-last page at the bottom (number 52, now anyways) and you'll see what looks like an almost complete set of thread from Jan. 2, 2007 to date.

Slumberjack

Sort of reads like a tombstone doesn't it?

Caissa

It should read "What Rabble management Wrought."

Michelle

Undecided

Caissa

My point is that Rabble Management are directly responsible for the creation of En Masse and many of these people no longer being members of Babble.

Michelle

Gee, thanks for clarifying.  I had no idea what you meant before.

jas

Rabble "management" did something that was unpopular and maybe controversial, but it was the members who left who are responsible for the creation of those other sites and for no longer being members here. Their decision.

Caissa

I think one could argue quite convincingly if one was writing the history of Rabble that management's behaviour directly led to the creation of EnMasse. A better historian than me might be able to discover other contributing factors. I'll go out on a limb and argue that without Management's "unpopular and maybe (sic) controversial" decision EnMasse would not have been formed. YMMV.

Check out the very last thread on the TAT list.  If you can see what I can see, how weird it that?  You can post to the thread and it still stays at the bottom of the TAT list with "Anonymous" listed as the last poster.  I posted something there a week or so ago.

The ironic coincidence?  You, Unionist, started that thread!! Laughing

I didn't move it because I couldn't.  I guess old threads can't be moved!  So I deleted my post.  Anyhow, I don't care, make it about whatever you want, and enjoy!

Michelle

Sven, that's really weird!  Thanks for bringing that to my attention.  I said so in the thread (which of course you can't find on TAT because it's on the last page and not in any forum), but I've notified tech support about it.

jas

Not arguing the chain of events, just the notion of responsibility.

ICCL.

Caissa

I appreciate your moving it, Michelle. I don't believe any thing I have written says that "Rabble management is Evil." I think I'm arguing as an historian that actions taken by Rabble's Management caused a reaction ie. the creation of EnMasse.

Caissa

I'm discussing causality. It's certainly more than a correlation.

Michelle

What I find strange about this thread is that I can't edit the opening post in any way, even to move the thread, which I can with all the other old posts in TAT.  Wonder why?  That's really odd.

oldgoat

Yeah, that's wierd.  I can close it (and reopen) but I can't do anything else.

But, maybe you could tell tech that they should make it priority No. 682 on the list of things to fix?

It's certainly an oddity...but not an urgency.

Michelle, maybe you could also ask tech support why when I open I am prompted to log onto somebody's blog???

Michelle

Holy crap.

Okay, right now they're working on upgrades and stuff to the software (yes, those upgrades we've been wishing for, including profile pages and all that - I've had a preview and it looks neat so far, but still needs a bit of work before it's ready to go live).

So we'll probably see glitches like that here and there.  I will definitely let them know about this, though, and please keep bringing stuff like this to my attention so I can pass the word along.

Michelle

Sven, yes, I've had a response and they're going to keep it in mind, but as you say, it isn't #1 on their list.

Thanks for the heads up, Sven. I have now , to which "GOD" had obviously consigned it.

My ways are clothèd in Mystery. Mere mortals miss the meaning.

oldgoat

I am reminded of the book "The Impertinances of Brother Anonymous"

May we call you Frere Untel?

Unionist

Wow, that takes me back a ways... How'd you know about him? I read about him long before I moved to Québec. We need more muckraking like that today. What a powerful influence that was.

oldgoat

I probably still have the book.  It was part of the course material in a Quebec related sociology course I took in university in the mid 70's.

Caissa

It's a great book. My copy is hiding somewhere in my basement.

First of all, welcome.

Secondly, slow down a touch. You're going to burn yourself out at the pace you're setting.

edited to add:

I truly hope you're going to hang around; I think you've got a lot to say, and some perspectives we could use here.

I'm asking, please, for more in-depth commentary from you - if perhaps at the expense of fewer individual posts.

This will upset some babblers, myself included: Katimavik, the youth service program championed by former prime minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, is on the Conservative government's chopping block, The Huffington Post Canada has learned.

Caissa

I guess Justin will just have to go on a hunger strike.Wink

Why is this posted here? Just because someone upthread mentioned Katimavik years ago?

I had no idea Katimavik was still around!

Sure has made a great difference to Canadian society in the last 35 years - NOT!

Boom Boom Boom Boom's picture

I was making a guess that Katimavik might be relevant to more than just two babblers. Sorry it brings out such an outburst from you. My family has a long history with the organization since their founding, and I occasionally still get their emails.

Gaian

Don't sweat it Boomer. This thread asks "Who Are Babble People," and there's no denying it, they come in a huge assortment.

I helped some kids from Katimavik make an old house a bit safer for them to live in. Brought back memories of the 60s, when good intentions still counted for something.Of course we oldtimers with another decade and a bit under our belts knew that the age of Aquarius meant diddly squat, but for a while, hardnosed business people were actually brought face to face with their own greed and animal acts.

All sublimated, long ago, of course.
